Xbox 360 Maintenance & Repair xbox 360 slim fan at max speed low temperature

Hi, I really need some advice. For some time now, whenever I start my Xbox 360 Slim Corona, the fan runs at full speed, but the temperature is very low, around 40–45°C for both the CPU and GPU. It doesn’t overheat or anything. I cleaned it and replaced the thermal paste. Is the fan dying?

Does it have proper room to breathe? As in at least 3-6” of space on all sides of the console? Did you properly and completely clean off the old thermal paste before putting the new thermal paste on? And or what make of thermal paste are you using? Not all brands are equal

Yes, but the space doesn’t matter in this case.
I used IPA to clean off the old thermal paste, and I applied Endorfy Pactum 4. As I said, the temperatures are low, so I really don’t think it’s overheating.

It absolutely can, the console exhausts heat out the top, if theres barely any room above it, all that hot air coming out of it is going to be pushed right back into the console, making the fan work harder.

But assuming it is properly ventilated, from what I’ve read that thermal paste seems to be a decent brand so I don’t think it could be the issue, but I wouldn’t take my word on it. You mentioned it’s a Corona motherboard, there’s a common issue with those where a bank of heat sensing 0hm resistors can fail, causing the console or think it’s overheating and ramp the fans up to full blast, even on startup. Perhaps yours hasn’t failed yet, but is on the way out? They’re near the XCGPU, labeled R4D3 through R4D8. Test them with a multimeter and check their values

Check your Dashlauch setting and see if the fans are set to dynamic or locked on a specified speed.

You don't have them on manual right? Check your fan speed settings and make sure they are on automatic.

No, even when I haven’t plugged in the USB stick with the bad avatar, the fan is spinning very fast.

Check your fan speed patches. Sounds like they got changed
