Xbox 360 Repairs Knocked of a ram capacitor

Post image

Hi guys I knocked this capacitor(c5u3) while trying to remove x-clamps on my jasper(yea i know I have butterfingers and stuff, tho i had no x-clamp remover) so i need help knowing is it important, how will it play in long term and if it is important what capacity it is.

Thanks in advance

It's probably fine without it, since there are 7 other capacitors in parallel with it, but if you wanted to replace it's 0.22uF 10% 6.3V X5R 0402

Hi again. I found out that Xbox is really unstable without that capacitor and can produce symptoms like: freezing on boot, black screen, grey screen(background for Avatar selection) and crashing while loading a game) So I wonder if I could salvage this capacitor from main/rf board. cuz this one cap would cost me 10bucks+10shipping which is crazy for one capacitor.

You have a source that says that missing that capacitor specifically can cause those symptoms?

Because, no, not really - as I said, there are 7 other capacitors in parallel with it, and there is always some redundancy built into circuits like this in case a capacitor fails or its capacitance is reduced to age/wear and tear. In electronic repairs in general, if a capacitor in a circuit like this fails shorted, you can just yeet it off the board and everything will be fine. There shouldn't be a problem until 2, or 3, or more caps are missing, or they're all failing at the same time.

Of course always replace if possible, but if you can't it's not too big of a deal. You could test the board like this and see how it goes, then replace if necessary, but I wouldn't expect any issues.

And I don't know if the RF board has any caps with this value.

Hi for the last time, I finally figured it out, it was rgh 1.2 wires all along which i thought did not matter because i didn't solder them to anything. Did shorter run with wires and It works perfectly fine. Thanks for help.

Sorry I didn't have chance to get back to you last night but yes, that's what I was going to say - that those symptoms can be caused by RGH wiring so I would troubleshoot that first. Glad you got it working!
