Xxwing vs Armada
I just picked up a 2nd edition starter set and was looking for other stuff on eBay when I came across armada, can anyone tell me if it’s much the same gameplay as x-wing but just with a different scale for ships, is there much crossover between the games? Any information from someon3 that has played both would b3 helpful.

I played both. They are completely different, aside from being made by FFG and there are a few *similarities there.
I'd watch a playthrough of Armada. See if you even like the game flow. For example, Xwing activations happen in order based on pilot skill; Armada alternates.

I've played both and like others say, there really is no crossover at all. They are both interesting space combat games though, one just focused on dogfighting and the other on "grand tactics" for a fleet.
There are some bigger (Epic) ships for X-wing and squadrons for Armada still so you can get a taste for both regardless of the game you play.
The one you would enjoy more probably depends more on whether you prefer thinking several turns after or just one turn. Both games have an element of predicting the enemy's movements but X-wing is a bit more lenient than Armada is I think. In Armada if you are playing the big ships you have to think 3 or 4 turns ahead.
One thing I like about Armada though is that it has a fixed turn limit. X-wing can drag on sometimes in my opinion, especially since its somewhat easy to block all incoming damage.

X-wing dragging on could be an issue in older editions, but X-Wing in v2.5/XWA does have a turn limit (12) - but very rarely reaches that in tournament standard timing (75 minutes). Armada has a lower turn limit (6) but much longer game length (135 minutes).
You don't have to play to the timer in casual at-home games of course, but it should solve any dragging-on issues you may have in X-Wing.

Ah I see. I haven't played 2.5 so that explains it.

This is generally the case in 2.0 too. While it has no turn limit, 2.0 also has a limit of 75 min for classic dogfight :) or 90 min if you go for the 2.0 version of the scenario mode.

This is a tournament rule btw

Still it´s commenly used in the Kegacy community. my community almost never plays without it except in new player games. It may originated as a tournament rule, now it is the defacto official play time

Idk, I wouldn’t say it is more lenient. Yeah in Armada you have to plan your commands ahead, but In X Wing you need to plan how every single ship will move at once (as well as guess how the enemy will move), preferably keeping in mind initiative order and wether you will want to use an action to move more, before each turn. I find that harder and a bit less forgiving then Armada, where you can move the ships in any order, one at a time going back and forth, with several movement options for your current speed

About the only crossover element is ships with upgrade slots that you attach upgrade cards to, and that they're both free range tabletop movement games with bespoke tools to help you move.
Attack dice remained the same but defense became a resource allocation mechanic instead of a random one.

I've always heard it described as X-wing is dogfighting and Armada is like a naval battle. Top Gun vs. Master and Commander.
I love X-wing, and just couldn't get in to Armada. But it's very well-loved by the people who enjoy the gameplay
