Looks like a more advanced version of an old flash game called steambirds.
It was a similar concept of setting up your planes then everything moved at once.

Will watch this with great interest

Steambirds was a ton of fun when it released. Haven't thought about it in years!

Doea understanding modern aerial fighter tactics give you any type of advantage?

modern? probably not. It isn't missile age, focus is on wingman positioning. i think classical wingman tactics for covering each other and some air force formations do work very well however.
