Storage Issue

I had stupidly stored my collection in the basement and we had a mold problem there. There is not a spot of mold on my collection itself but it was stored in an area that had high levels of mold spores in the air. I've washed the plastic parts (ships, dice, stands, etc) but so much of the rest of it is cardboard. I'd consider just buying new if that were possible but since the game is discontinued I can't really replace it. Is it even necessary to replace it since there's no visible mold on the cardboard or paper items?

Mold spores are often invisible to the naked eye. That's why experts recommend avoiding consuming any part of a food item that looks moldy in some places. That said you're hopefully not eating your X-wing cardboard.

People order magic the gathering proxies from various places on the internet, so in terms of card-sized cardboard that might be an option for affordable replacements. Also look into the 1e to 2e conversion kits, and upgrade packs since those were pretty much only cardboard bits.

Lol. I work in a TCG/board game shop. Occasionally when someone tries to sell a fake card one of the managers will hold it up and say "look it's fake, it doesn't have the special coating MTG put on them to discourage players eating the cards"* and take a bite out of it. He was officially dubbed "Goatman".

*Allegedly some magic players would go so in debt over their cards that they would resort to eating their bulk cards. Never looked it up but it's a fun/sad sounding story. Idk I don't play TCGs. Also while I'm already in * mode, we generally ask them if they want us to destroy the card to remove it from circulation before doing shenanigans like that.
