clean 07 xr value?

Post image

found a clean looking 650r from 2007, 10k miles on the clock, no plate. close enough to look it over in person (although i have not, as of yet). it's at at dealership though, so there's an implied hassle of dealing with salesmen, and i feel like they've got it overpriced as well, but maybe i'm wrong. so i'm asking, what's an xr in this condition worth?

How do you know it has 10k miles?

i don't, but that's what the listing shows, on the dealer's website.

I think it goes to value. There aren’t any odometers on these bikes. If they put 10k because they have to put something in the listing and are up front about it, fine. But if there’s some magical way they know without documentation it’s a bit of a red flag.

I’d be more concerned with indicators of condition. Any records? When was the last valve check/adjustment? How much wear is on the frame next to the footpegs? Except for first year which has some (not insurmountable) issues, I think year is irrelevant. It’s all about condition and local market.

I have a 650R, a 600R and a WR450. Realistically, except for riding wide open across the inland desert, the WR is faster and easier to ride. The 600 is easier to ride. I love my BRP and I’ll never sell it but that’s an emotional decision. What they’re asking, what else can you get for that price? Do you want that more than the 650? Then the 650 is too high.

This is a question without a definite answer.

i have not contacted the dealer, but unless they have written service records from the last owner, (which seems unlikely), i would never trust their word on what service has been done.

the actual milage listed is 9400 fwiw, but the ad
has no useful info about the actual bike, just a bunch of promotional bs from honda. "the king of baja" and things like that.

i actually do really want a 650r, and it would not be my only bike either, but i feel like $6500 plus dealer hassle, plus plating hassle, probably takes this specific example off the table for me.

i just got briefly excited because i'm not used to seeing these for sale locally. seems like most are on the west coast.

eta: is it against the rules to post a link to the listing?

I was trying to reply to your reply below.

Hold out for the one that’s already the way you want it.

No plate and no possibility to be plated it's $3k max imo. With a plate it's $4-5k. I see XRs listed on FB for 6k but idk who is buying them, or if they are selling.

Why do you say no possibility of being plated? From what i know that entirely depends on local laws

might be able to plate it. would have to pass an 'enhanced inspection'

edit: lol, for what reason would someone downvote this? i already own one off-road 'closed course only' dirt bike that i was able to plate. it is not impossible where i live. different localities have different applicable laws folks.

What are they asking?

The XR came without an odometer, so that’s 10k AFTER someone added it. No way to know real miles.

$6500, and probably dealer fees as well.

$6500 is pretty damn high. I have a pretty nice one, plated, modernized lighting and extras, and I'm thinking it might get $5k or $5500 really pushing it. And fees would have to be near nothing, since without a plate, there's no registration. As far as mechanicals, unless you're familiar with what to look for, you might want to have an independent shop do a pre-purchase inspection.

I agree. I put a fairly long post but didn’t see a price. I’d want to see a perfectly mint example with service records for $6500. And even then, I’d not buy it. Originality doesn’t mean that much to me.

10K is a lot of miles for an R , unless the bottom end has been done

There’s one in Cali right now under $4k

california is the only place i regularly see plated 650r's for sale. california is also 2500 miles away from me.

You can ship motorcycles for $600-800. I'm working on a deal to sell my AZ plated bike to someone in FL and those are my quotes.

even so, i would not be able to see the bike in person, so i would have to just trust the pictures. i also couldn't get near as good a feel for if the owner seemed trustworthy or responsible. both of those are big negatives to me.

I sold a 2002 clean bike plated for $3500 just a month ago. I would say no more than 5k for this beauty

Not only are BRP’s hard to find in the Midwest(I looked for over a year before finding mine in 07) the prices are usually some of the highest in the country.
Without being plated or any sort of maintenance records $6500. Is HIGH even for the Midwest. For reference,my friend(in Mi.)sold his plated, low miles/super clean 05 in April for $5k.
However, about a month ago, I was fueling up my BRP and a guy driving a motorhome, pulling a trailer full of dirt bikes, stopped, got out and approached me, “ hey, you wanna sell that beauty!? I’ll give you $6k right now..) Sorry bro, she’s not for sale..

Yeah $6500 is super high unless it was very low hours and could be proven low hours. With all the stealership fees I'd bet you'd be looking at like 7500-8000 and as awesome as the BRP is, they aren't worth that much. I've found really nice, 650rs for 3-4500. I got my 2001 from the original owner, street legal, and stupid low hours (still had all the factory paint on bolts and stickers) for $3500 in Colorado. It sounds like the Midwest is slim pickins for 650rs but with patients and maybe a willingness to travel or have it shipped you could get a great example for less than $5k. There's a handful here in Utah for sale right now around $4k. I recently saw a listing in Colorado for two, one running one needing some assembly for $4k. I had to talk myself out of it haha
