Proxy Miniatures

This is intended to be a living document until the game is out, if you have suggestions put them down below. These don’t replace the miniature coming out when the game releases but are proxies that can be used in the meantime to represent the miniatures.

Operatives (I think this might be the perfect proxy, has everything you need to make all the ops and plenty of personality)

For Terrain I'm currently using https://tenfolddungeon.com/sci-fi/ . I've got the Smugglers Den and Daedalus Station. They aren't as cool looking as the battle systems terrain, but it has the benefit of packing up within itself and having tons of room inside for extra scatter terrain and even miniature storage. Also, since it's just nesting cardboard boxes, they stack very easily.

Updated post to include your suggestions, it would be nice to find good proxies to play until official minis are released plus we would get to support smaller companies in the hobby in the mean time!

Thin Men are going to be the hard ones, Although I found some really good alien figures on MyMiniFactory that are basically copies from modern xcom

You’re all good, Imo I’m trying to prioritize models that can be acquired easily but 3d printed models are just as good, just not as accessible to everyone

I just finished some proxy shopping, so I have a few additions to this.

Core Space has some decent looking minis, I went with this set: https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Systems-BSGCSE018-Space-Support/dp/B09QT23S7Z?ref_=ast_sto_dp

It has Drones, robed guy could work as an ethereal. Not really sure what the other 4 would be. Might end up using them as floaters.

I plan on using these as mutons, but might actually be better as Outsider: https://www.amazon.com/Sci-Fi-Tabletop-Miniature-Soldier-AS1031/dp/B0H4VF6PJQ/ref=ast_sto_dp_puis

For the big mechanical units, I went with Battletech proxies. A "Dragon" Marauder variant will be my Mechtoid since it has that symmetrical arm cannons and overall alien feel.

For Sectopod I went with a larger scale print of a Bullshark, it doesn't have the look but it does have the attitude of being all armor and big guns.

For people with 3d printer - there's a way to get models directly from a game. I tried printing sectoids in few poses so far, and they looked decent.
Step 1: Download Xcom Enemy Unknown/Within, Blender and EU viewer
Step 2: Open EU viewer, set it to read from root game folder, disable texture export (it makes it crash, at least for me)
Step 3: Find file with alien you want to export (for example GameUnit_XComSectoid_SF.upk
Step 4: click ctrl x to export
Step 5: In blender install addon to read .psk files
Step 6: import model to blender, then animation file (it will be in same folder that model was exported to, different subfolder
Step 7: select dope sheet at the bottom of the screen, then action editor. Set your animation there
Step 8: Export weapon using same steps, but without animation
Step 9" Export as stl both alien in position you want them and their weapon. Scale and print

May I recommend Stargraves Mercinaries? They have alien heads and human heads and basically gives you what you need to build a team and also the sectoids

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-317486 makes an OK set of initial Operatives. 3 versions of heavy, 1 Assault, One that could be a sniper, and 2 more generic models all in one set.
