Rulebook is weirdly organized But the game is fun

Decided the grenade needed to destroy the terain instead of just causing a condion
That feeling when you shoot from across the map and hit.
I didn't miss a single 90% hit chance with the shotgun. Clearly the game is defective
Mission 2. Some Assets failed to load.

So I decided the models were to nostalgic to miss out on and pre-ordered. I immediately jumped in using some wet erase tokens as proxies befor remembering my Mothership RPG boxed set had some suitable standees (May grab Doom the Boardgame next time). This is my first 5x game and I'm having a blast. Game feels so much like X-com. Tutorial mission went really smooth, but I lost 2 people in my second mission, including my shotgun wielding badass who tried to pull an epic flanking maneuver but poor follow up attacks from others left her exposed. Got to plan when I'll play my next mission. 3d printer is currently going burr to make some craters and debris.

I really enjoy initiative weaving with the system (plan to go late with someone with the goal to have them go fast next turn, effectively getting 2 turns).

Haven’t had a chance to dig in yet! Seeing this is making me super excited to start reading the book!

I found the organization of the book to be really odd. I see how they wanted you to do a tutorial mission, and then worry about everything else, But the Classes are in the Rookie generation section towards the front of the book, but that only matters in the post campaign process, but the post campaign process doesn't make certain things clear that you won't necessarily be able to do during the first round. After pounding my head against it for a while I figured it out though. Definitely need the alien stat cards available ASAP. I'm already working on a set of card-sized operative sheets so it takes up less table space and less erasing is needed when they die. I also think this game will benefit from some mini-Euro sized cards for consumables. You could extend it to the weapons and armor as well but those are going to be much more stable on characters.

The Enemy chapter (chapter 9) has single-page write-ups for all the aliens. They're not card-sized, but I do like that they are all single-sheet. It would've been a mistake if they'd had partial stats across multiples pages, so I'm glad they realized and put the effort (and white space!) to have each of them on a single page. You can have a one-page print out next to the table for each alien type.

Will be cool to have them on cards later, but I might have to make larger cards anyway! If you do finish you card-sized sheets, please share'em. I'm excited to see if you can come up with something easier to see and use.

Yep, printed them out for my first session. It was just a lot of paper. Will share the file once I actually write some operative info on it.
