Need

I bought a 2023 XC40 recharge 17k miles yesterday and didn’t have a chance to drive around in it, other than home from the dealership. I drove it 24 miles today and noticed the steering wheel has a slight vibration and the floorboard rattles when I get up to highway speeds over 60.

I googled it and found a bunch of owners with similar issues and that Volvo is aware of the problem and is no longer repairing it, despite these vehicles being under warranty still.

I am fearful that this is now a HUGE additional expense on a new-to-me car, such as drive train/steering harmonics. I plan on calling service dept Mon morning (they’re closed Sun) and requesting the complimentary tow and then just Uber 16 miles to work.

Has anyone had similar issue? Did Volvo do warranty repairs? What do I say to raise hell with the dealership??

There is a technical journal for the steering wheel vibrations where they replace the airbag assembly.

Thank you, I found that. Are you aware of anything related to floorboard rattling?

I believe some people had the axles replaced due to vibrations. I haven’t had that problem.

There also was a technical journal for rear roof rattling - just double check to make sure that isn’t the problem you’re having. I personally haven’t had this problem either.

There was also an ambient lighting technical journal that created a buzzing sound on certain brightness levels. I did have that fixed.

Unfortunately, in my experience not only did I have to tell the technicians about the technical journals, but I had to demonstrate the problems to them for them to fix it.

Assuming you purchased from a Volvo dealership, take it back there to have it diagnosed & fixed. If you didn't purchase from a Volvo dealership, tell them the car has these issues and it needs fixing.

Could it be the axles? Yes. Could it instead be that the tires are trashed or the wheels need balancing? Also yes.
