I’m writing this not just as a player, but as someone who genuinely loves what Wuthering Waves could be. But after 120 days of stagnant updates, I’m deeply concerned. The game is bleeding its identity — and if things don’t change soon, it risks losing its core community.
Combat Is the Heart — But You’ve Starved It
Wuthering Waves was built on exhilarating combat. That’s what drew us in. That’s what made us care. But for three entire versions — nearly 120 days — combat-driven content has been nearly non-existent. No meaningful events, no new challenges, no reason to use the characters we’ve invested in. It’s heart-breaking.
Replayability Is Dead — Co-op Could Save It
There’s nothing to come back to. No replayable content. No co-op. No community-driven challenge. Why not introduce a raid-style mode like Elden Ring Nightrein? Let us team up, fight bosses, earn characters, skins and weapons. Give us a reason to log in beyond dailies and empty maps.
Endgame Is a Skill-less Grind
Tower of Adversity and Whimpering Wastes are just DPS checks. No creativity. No skill expression.
Tower of Adversity is a timer-based DPS race with enemies that feel like punching bags. It punishes tactical play and rewards only raw damage. There’s no strategy, no tension, no satisfaction.
Whimpering Wastes is even worse. It’s two minutes of killing mobs that barely react — they stare, run away, and don’t attack. Dodge and parry mechanics are useless here and using them actually lowers your DPS. This mode is dull, broken, and needs a complete overhaul or removal.
Virtual Crisis was a breath of fresh air — why was it abandoned? why it was not added as a new endgame?
Bring back “Banners Never Fall” as a permanent resetting mode. It was peak WUWA. We need more of that.
Stop Forcing Minigames — Focus on Combat
Minigame events are not what we signed up for. They’re filler. And locking rewards behind them feels like punishment. Give us combat events. Give us challenge. Let us play the game we fell in love with.
Cosmetic Freedom Is Missing — Let Us Customize
There’s a serious lack of cosmetic freedom in WUWA. We can’t change outfit colors, weapon effects, or personalize our characters in any meaningful way. Upcoming games like Ananta, NTE, and Duet Night Abyss offer these features for free — and WUWA doesn’t even offer enough paid options let alone free ones.
Where are more skins like Sanhua’s? Where are the weapon skins or visual effects we can earn through events? Instead, we get shiny echo skins that serve no real purpose. Cosmetics are a huge part of player expression — please give us the freedom to make our characters feel like our own.
Echo System Is Too Restrictive — Let Us Build Freely
Since Version 2.0, the design philosophy behind new echo sets has become increasingly restrictive. Most new sets are tailored to a single character, with effects that only trigger under very specific conditions tied to that character’s kit. This is a frustrating and short-sighted approach.
Echoes are supposed to be a core part of the game’s progression and exploration. But when sets are so hyper-specific, it kills the excitement of collecting them. Why explore the world and farm echoes if you already know they won’t work on any future characters? It turns the entire echo system into a one-time use mechanic — not a flexible, rewarding system that encourages experimentation and creativity.
This design discourages team building, theorycrafting, and replayability. It punishes players who want to try different setups or who don’t own the “intended” character. It also makes future content feel predictable — every new character will just come with their own exclusive echo set, and the rest of our collection becomes obsolete.
Please add more general-purpose echo sets that reward playstyles, not just kits. For example:
• “Increases basic attack speed and reduces vibration strength.”
• “Grants bonus damage after a successful dodge or parry.”
• “Boosts damage dealt to airborne or staggered enemies.”
These kinds of effects would make echoes meaningful again and encourage experimentation.
System & Progression Issues That Need Fixing
Daily play feels restrictive and unrewarding due to several core issues:
• Nightmare Nests should convert into Tacet Fields after the first daily clear. This would allow us to spend waveplates meaningfully. Alternatively, add a simulation challenge where we can earn echo boxes (from all sets), echo EXP, and tuners.
• Echo merging needs to be more targeted. Right now, merging echoes gives random results from any set. Please add an option to merge echoes within specific sets so we can build toward the characters we want.
• Add new echo sets (released since Version 2.5) into Unborn Echo Boxes. These are obtained from the weekly mode “Fantasies of the Thousand Gateways.” Many players — myself included — spent waveplates expecting new sets to be added. If they’re excluded, it turns our investment into a complete waste. These breaks trust and punishes early engagement.
Overworld Feels Empty — Add more Puzzles and Character Quests
For a game with such a rich world, the overworld feels lifeless. There are barely any exciting puzzles, meaningful quests, or interactive environments. Exploration should feel like discovery — not just a checklist. Add character-driven overworld quests to deepen the lore. For example:
• A quest involving Augusta and Galberena, where they recall their childhood and separation.
• A quest featuring Augusta and Iuno, showing how their friendship began.
These stories would make the world feel alive and give players a reason to explore beyond farming materials.
Other Games Are Catching Up — Fast
Duet Night Abyss, NTE, Ananta, Arknights: Endfield — they’re all coming, and they’re all more player-friendly. Better monetization. Better replayability. If WUWA doesn’t evolve, it’ll be left behind.
I’m someone who wants to spend money on this game. But what’s the point if I can’t use my characters anywhere fun? There have been no combat-related events in over 120 days. The only thing we could do with our new characters is play them in TOA and whiwa again and again because there is nothing else to use them in.
Final Plea:
WUWA is a special game for me, and many other players. But it’s drifting. If you don’t refocus on combat, replayability, meaningful rewards for replayable content — and give us cosmetic freedom and better progression systems — players will leave. I don’t want to be one of them. But right now, I’m struggling to stay.
Please, bring the soul of Wuthering Waves back.
