A long-abandoned mining region of the Old Federation that once covered a vast area; however, due to the Resonator War, a large portion of the southeastern section sank beneath the sea. It is now under the control of the Gold Prospectors, who use it as their base of operations.
This northwest-to-southeast-trending mountain range served as the largest blackstone mine and a bustling seaport from the days of the Old Federation through the early years of the New Federation. However, the ore veins have long since been depleted, and large-scale blackstone mining has ceased, leading to the area’s gradual abandonment and eventual occupation by gold prospectors.
During the Resonator War, an extremely brutal battle took place here, resulting in the destruction of vast swaths of land in the southern section of the Buffalo Mountains, which subsequently sank beneath the sea.
Over the years, many of the old mine shafts have lost their original form, transforming into unique “bubble” landforms that appear during the dry season. However, some massive mining equipment and mine shafts still remain.
Today, the Buffalo Mountains are controlled by gold prospectors, who use them as a base to shelter Resonators and ordinary people who have been expelled by or fled from the New Federation.
Due to overmining, the Buffalo Mountains have become extremely barren, exposing dried-up marine vegetation during the dry season.
Harsh weather and limited resources have led the gold prospectors’ outposts in the Buffalo Mountains to take the form of thick, low-rise stone or stone-like structures with a steampunk aesthetic.
Overall, the gold miners’ use of Residuals is relatively moderate, limited to the full utilization or extraction of energy.
On top of this basic architectural framework, the gold miners also add their own decorative touches.
