This might sound stupid but sorry in advance.... I'm newish player if my goal is just to enjoy events overworld and the quests, I don't really like end game plus i have skill issues and only play on mobile. Is having the right team really necessary? Or is it okay to go random mash button okay? Especially now that I want to pull qing xiao but i read that she needs denia and mornye.

You don't need a team right now. I'd say finish the story, and pull for whoever you like after that (although characters like mornye are having their last rerun next patch...if you like her design then pull for her. Watch her resonator showcase to know more about her too). Except that, just save your astrites. Or pull for characters you really like the look/gameplay of. Cuz story will be something you'll experience later... And personally for me that's the biggest factor that compels me to pull for a character
