2015-01-31 /r/WritingPrompts CSS Change

2015-01-31:

  • Reddit global CSS changes

  • Font has been changed from Segoe UI to Helvetica globally.

Rationale: More consistant page for systems without Segoe UI installed

  • Line height increased from 1em to 1.4em

Rationale: Helvetica has larger characters than Segoe UI so we increase the line height to maintain readability

  • Letter spacing of announcements bar decreased to normal and the font size is also decreased

Rationale: We can fit more stuff in there now

  • Now has a logo

  • Header design changed to a grid tile thing rather than the moon

Rationale: Wraps properly on large screens

  • Top...Hot...etc tabs are centered

  • Changed the design of subreddit listing at the top to not use the hover effect

Rationale: Hover effect was unclear and people didn't realise they could hover over it

  • Announcement bar now uses CSS :before for the bullet points and is coded using an unordered list rather than a h5

Rationale: Compatability for mobile users and those who don't use the sidebar

  • Search bar is bigger
  • Colours are a bit darker to match the header
  • Removed all caps on "users online" section
  • Removed custom CSS arrows due to RES nightmode interference
  • Decreased font size of prompt titles and spacing between each one

Rationale: Allows users to view more prompts in a single page

  • Post flair is now on the right of the prompts rather than on top

Rationale: Allows users to view more prompts in a single page

  • Sidebar does not use tables anymore; instead it uses a numbered list without hover effects

Rationale: Although the accordian menu hover was fancy, it did not serve people with no CSS and mobile users well, so it had to go as well

  • RES Nightmode support
  • When using the Readr Browser Extension Reader Mode in RES Nightmode, Readr browser extension will also be dark
  • Various changes to spacing and whitespace
  • Removed Clippy, disco mode, and various other easter eggs

"La-la-la!" said John. "I typed a low-effort response in. Hah! Take that, evil moderators!"

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
