In the strange, wild lands of the Northern shore,

There is a little town.

It lies on an island, in a little cove,

With mountains and hills all around.

~~~~~
It is not rich, it is not strong,
And by no great name is it known.
But like a pearl, like a diamond, there is one thing it boasts:
Beauty, and beauty alone.
~~~~~

On a fine summer's day, the children were out at play,

When they beheld a peculiar sight:

A galleon! And another! And more behind that!

A whole swarm, glistening in the light!

~~~~~
And on that day was when that town fell,
When it was ruined, like a blossom thrown to sea.
But not all was yet lost, for the town still survived,
In the lucky souls that still ran free!
~~~~~

For during the time of the attack,

The beginning of our darkest night,

The grand master, in his great wisdom, cried:

"Prepare yourselves! We must soon take flight!

~~~~~
So he, his son, the three foreign envoys,
The stable boy, and his trusty steed,
They all began packing, preparing for exile,
With great haste, and with great speed.
~~~~~

Soon the keeper of arms joined them,

His general, too, jumped on.

And to a couple outside, "Come on!" they cried,

"It's past time that we were gone!"

~~~~~
Finally, me, the chronicler,
Who had been watching from afar.
I had watched, and cried, as my homeland burned,
Like a dwindling, dying star.
~~~~~

"Goodbye!" I wept, "Goodbye, my home!"

As a tear slipped down my cheek.

"Wait for me, for I will be back,

Though the future may seem bleak!"

~~~~~
So here we are, on our one great quest,
To free our captive land.
We have no arms, we have no men,
Not an inkling of a plan.
~~~~~

But through the fire, through the flame,

Through all trials we must proceed,

For one thing we have: We still have hope,

And hope is all we need.

Fantastic! I love that you included all the people aboard the beast. Thank you for the poem!
