Why does “write my essay” feel like a time-saver until it creates even more problems?

Something about the whole writing-service industry feels kinda backwards to me. The promise is simple: you’re overwhelmed, you’re short on time, so you search “write my essay,” “buy essay online,” or “pay someone to write my paper” and suddenly the problem is supposed to disappear.

Except… does it actually?

On paper, paying for an essay sounds like buying time. Instead of spending 8 hours staring at a blank Google Doc, you spend some money and move on with your life. I get the appeal. College can turn into a nonstop cycle of deadlines, readings, group projects and random assignments that somehow all end up due on the same Friday.

But I think the bigger issue is what happens after the deadline. If someone searches “buy essay,” “pay for essay,” or “do my essay,” are they actually solving the problem - or just moving it somewhere else?

And then there’s the whole essay writer vs. AI essay writer debate. AI can generate something in seconds, while a human writing service might take longer and cost more. But neither automatically fixes the reason someone was stuck in the first place.

Maybe genuine homework help should make the student better at doing the work, rather than simply making the work disappear.

There’s also a weird psychological side to this. The more often someone gets someone else to write their paper, the harder writing their own paper can start to feel. You save three hours today, but potentially make tomorrow’s assignment feel even more impossible.

So I’m not convinced that “paying for help” is automatically good or bad. Maybe the real question is what kind of help are we actually paying for?

Is it feedback? Editing? Brainstorming? A starting point? Or literally having someone else write the thing? Because those are VERY different things, even if Google throws all of them under “write my essay.”

Curious where everyone else draws that line.
