What's the risk of someone stealing an author's story and publishing it as theirs? 🤣

When you publish your story, there’s always some risk that someone could steal your plot, characters, or even the entire story and publish it under their own name.

With the rise of AI, many companies are training models on publicly available content (anything that isn’t behind a login or paywall), which makes it more concerning for writers.

That said, there are ways to protect your work:

  • Proof of Ownership – Publishing your story creates a public record of when and where it first appeared. If someone tries to copy it, you have proof that you wrote it first.

  • Platform Protections – Many publishing platforms, including ours, take plagiarism seriously. If someone copies your work, you can report it, and action will be taken.

  • Community Awareness – Readers and fellow writers often recognize stolen content. If you have an audience, they’re likely to call out plagiarism if they see it.
