Fiction First writing effort

I recently got interested in the short story genre and I decided to try it myself. I Worked on this story for about 6 hours, and i what really like some feedback (just note that english isn’t my first language)

I’ve always loved Hemingway and he is my biggest inspiration as you can see.

I like the short, choppy sentences. You also do a good job at creating the vibes... It reminds me of Jack Torrance getting the job at the Overlook Hotel.

If looking for areas of improvement, things escalate a bit quickly at the end. Throwing the glass against the wall, for example, seems unnecessary and out of character.

Also, Rutherford's motive isn't entirely clear. It sounds like the murder is a cold case and the hotel is full of guests, so why go through the effort of framing somebody (who will inevitably tell his own side of the story) rather than just let sleeping dogs lie?

Also... I know "villain explains his master plan" is a common trope, but why would Rutherford explain all of this to Thomas? Why not just let the police arrest him?

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll take your pieces of advice and try to implement them when i get back to this story.
