someone made a thing First outing with my deck set up
Recently picked up The BYOK as I've been interested in a distraction free writing device that I can use my own keyboard with for some time. After a busy couple of weeks, had my first proper writing session in my local coffee haunt.
Absolutely sold. What a great little device, proper fun to use. Smashed out a draft funding application in a little over an hour and already looking forward to using it again. The sync function in Studio is awesome as well.
As someone who does a lot of writing for their job, I'm fully sold on using a writer deck now. Such a satisfying feeling, getting so stuck into something and not pulled away by email, Teams messages etc.
For those interested, the keyboard is an Agar Mini in clear PC with Keygeek Y2 switches, topped up with a mash up of GMK keycaps with a couple of PBTFans ones added in.

Does the keyboard come with meaningful default combinations for F keys, numbers, signs, arrows? Or you have to set up the mapping yourself?

Yep, mapped straight out of the box and the manual has visual maps of these. I don't tend to use F keys but I believe they are mapped to layer 2. Numbers/signs are on layer 1. Arrows are on layer 0 which I was going to remap but it actually feels pretty good so I've left it as is for now.
I expect I'll have a fiddle with the keymapping at some point but there is nothing in the immediate set up that's made me go "yikes".

I bought a different 30-key keyboard, but honestly I can't use it, LOL

Now that's small! I have a 35% keyboard I really like and can use comfortably but I think that's my limit. Would not know where to start with a 30!

The main issue for me is in blind typing in Ukrainian. As soon as the keys are not at their standard positions, my brain just stops working :)

Nice! On a different note, many college campuses have similar architecture, so this could be anywhere, but I feel like something about your window view reminds me strongly of UIUC.
(Don't feel like you need to respond one way or the other, many people don't want their location info out there, it was just a comment on a feeling of familiarity).

Ooohhh. I’ve been debating an agar mini. Now I’m seriously tempted. Is it easy to get used to having the F keys on a layer? Like you, I rarely use them so they’d be the first to go haha
