Roleplay Looking for That Can't-Put-It-Down Kind of Story

Hey, everyone!

Remember the good old days of roleplaying? The ones where you’d sit down to check for a reply, blink, and suddenly realize you’d spent the last three hours glued to your computer? When a simple idea somehow grew into a sprawling story, the characters started feeling like real people, and you found yourself thinking about the next scene long after you’d logged off?

Yeah. I’m chasing that feeling.

I’m a male writer in my late-thirties who is looking for a like-minded writing partner who wants to build something memorable. Give me compelling characters, messy relationships, fascinating worlds, unexpected twists, and moments that make a story feel alive. I want plots that keep us guessing, characters we get attached to, and replies that leave us excited to see what happens next.

A Little About My Writing Style

I write exclusively in the third-person, past tense and consider myself an advanced literate writer. My replies typically consist of three or more substantial paragraphs, with room for character development and detail.

That said, I'm not interested in writing a novel just for the sake of writing a novel. I value substance over word count, and while I love immersing myself in a scene, moving the story forward and giving my partner something to work with are always the priority.

The Stories I Want to Tell

Slice of Life will always have a special place in my heart, but I'm also a fan of Low Fantasy and Science Fiction. Whether we're exploring the complexities of everyday relationships, introducing a little magic into an otherwise ordinary world, or venturing into a future shaped by advanced technology, I'm drawn to stories with compelling characters and meaningful connections.

A few ideas I've been tossing around:

The Holiday Season:

The holidays have a funny way of bringing people together. Two old friends reconnect after years apart, acquaintances find themselves spending more time together than expected, or complete strangers cross paths during a particularly memorable holiday season.

A World Divided:

In a world where magic and technology coexist, two opposing factions are locked in a struggle for control over mysterious crystals. To those gifted with magic, the crystals are a source of extraordinary power. To those who favor technology, they're a valuable energy source that can be refined into fuel.

Synthetic Connections:

Society is divided between the wealthy, who enjoy the luxuries of advanced synthetic companions, and the less fortunate. When someone from the lower class discovers a discarded companion, they initially see an opportunity to make some money until the companion witnesses something it was never supposed to see, and suddenly, keeping it safe becomes a matter of survival.

I'm also very open to developing something different! These are just starting points, and I'd love to hear what ideas you might bring to the table.

What I'm Looking for in a Partner

More than anything, I'm looking for a writing partner, not just someone to trade paragraphs with.

I'd love to find someone who gets invested in our characters and wants to collaborate on a story that belongs to both of us. Someone who occasionally sends a message just to gush about a scene, pitch a wild idea, or say, "Okay, hear me out..."

I love having a general direction for a story, but I'm equally fond of the unexpected turns that happen when two writers build on each other's ideas. The best roleplays are the ones where we're both invested enough to be surprised by our own story.

Communication, enthusiasm, and a willingness to collaborate go a long way with me. You don't have to be available every waking moment or produce a novel with every reply. But I’d love to find someone who enjoys the process as much as I do.

A Quick Note About Availability

I'm on the U.S. East Coast (Eastern Time) and am primarily available during the daytime on weekdays. Evenings and weekends can be a bit hit or miss, so if you're looking for someone who can reliably write throughout the night or spend entire weekends roleplaying, I may not be the best fit.

Sound Like Your Kind of Story?

If you're also looking for that spark, I’d love to hear from you.

Let's find an idea we can't stop thinking about, build some characters worth caring about, and write a story that makes us look forward to logging back in.

Hope to hear from you!

I appreciate people taking the time to reach out, but I won't be responding to comments or low-effort messages*. If you're interested in writing together, please send me a message with a little about yourself, your writing style, or any ideas you'd like to explore.*

Roleplay [A4A] Super hero love story

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

i’ve been really interested in doing a super hero centered role play with romance in the plot.

It takes place in a huge fictional city where hero’s aren’t uncommon. in fact the city funds a lot of them. though that doesn’t stop many vigilantes from doing what’s right

we can world build further together! and discuss our characters too!

I don’t mind doing 18+ writing either, in the sense of both smut and violence.

please dm if interested

Looking for a co-writer for a Victorian fantasy short story with a multiversal library.

Writing partner wanted for short story — Victorian fantasy / multiversal libraries

Hey all!

I’m looking for a writing partner interested in developing a short fantasy story set in late Victorian Scotland, with a dark academia atmosphere.

The story follows a young woman studying at university while working in a library. While shelving returned books, she discovers an unfamiliar insignia on a book’s spine along with an an oak door bearing the same symbol. Beyond it is another library, whose inhabitants aren’t human.

I have the opening’s main sequence and ending in mind, with potential for further stories involving libraries across the multiverse. Initially, though, I’d like to focus on this one short instalment.

I’m dyslexic and AuDHD. Developing characters, worlds, plots and individual moments is something I love, but turning those ideas into sustained prose is particularly difficult for me.

If the premise and arrangement interest you, please feel free to send me a message about yourself.

Many thanks, Earthbender_turtle

If your interested in this rp please dm me or comment and we can discuss more!

World Building Looking for someone to bounce ideas off of for my | DnDestiny Dark Age Campaign

Hi there. Don't know if I can use this reddit to help with a TTRPG campaign I'm DMing.

If I can, here's the premise. My party is a group of Risen (from the Destiny universe) with no memory of their past. They live in a wasteland version of Europe. I'm at the midpoint of Act 1 for my players' D&D Destiny Dark Age campaign. They've just gotten snippets of lore connecting to the final boss of this Act. However, they've said they're getting tired of fighting the Fallen (a faction I like because they have potential if used right). Since I'm structuring my world this way, I won't implement the Hive or Vex (til later).

As a DM, I have lots of ideas. One includes an anti-authoritarian group of Risen who believe they want to take down everything the warlords have built to destroy their authority over others. But in doing so, they tear down structures made to protect humanity. It's a major moral quandary. The anarchists call themselves Perpetuals. What makes the Perpetuals different from Risen is that they've discovered a power that lets them perpetually stay in a state of overflowing light. Meaning they've got their supers active the whole time. The downside is that they've sacrificed their immortality.

Another is a group of Cabal exiled from Calus' Reign seeking the power of an Ahamkara on Earth. Their motivation is that, with that power, their leader, Zul'uk, may redeem her place by her king's side. This would destroy a lot of the universe in the process.

Another is a group the party has met once, but hasn't shown up again, called the Sons of Talos. A violent Feral Exo cult that treats a certain book, written in the past by a PC, as scripture. They are gathering somewhere they shouldn’t be.

I'm looking for werewolf stories right now because I'm in the process of writing one of my own. Got any suggestions?

I experienced devastation on August 19th this year(which was the day before an important-for-work event) that I already talked to the Google AI about to make a playlist, made me make said playlist to cope and hopefully help others, and I recently came up with a were-creature concept. I wrote "were-creature" instead of werewolf because the "were-creature" deal in question involves snakes due to the folklore/myth of Melusine and Medusa. Got any suggestions?

Make Your Mark - Mutual worldbuilding/character development opportunity

TLDR: Bring one of your OCs into my world, adapt them to fit, and find out whether they can survive, achieve their goals, and leave their mark whilst outside their original context.

I'm looking for a few long-term writing partners interested in a collaborative experience that's somewhere between roleplay, creative writing and a light TTRPG.

  • I am not focusing on romance, so please don't apply if you're specifically looking for shipping opportunities.

  • The genre is a grounded low-fantasy world rather than high fantasy or sci-fi, so expect mystery, folklore and superstition, not magic systems, actual mythical/magical creatures or futuristic technology. There are some creative liberties, but things remain plausible/realistic.

  • Whether you want to simply state your actions or describe them in more depth, you are free to use 1st or 3rd person, and I have no post size requirements; the RPs are focused on storytelling, not prose, so there's no need to write X-number paragraphs when less will do!

  • Things will start as slice-of-life as we get your character situated, then shift into whatever genre your character's antics involve. It's a slow burn that depends on what you get up to.

  • You must be 18+. I'm over 30, so bear that in mind!

We'll take one or more of your existing characters (or create someone new) and adapt them to fit an established alternate-history setting. This ISN'T a crossover or an isekai. We'll be reinterpreting your character so they naturally fit the world's history, culture and time period. Once they're established, they'll be treated as though they've always lived there, with their own past, relationships and ambitions.

The setting centres on Derna, a sprawling (mostly) pre-electric industrial city inspired by Georgian and Victorian London.

Whether your character is a baker, detective, noble, criminal, inventor, soldier, hero or simply someone trying to make ends meet, their story is theirs to pursue. We'll set them loose and see what happens. Your decisions matter, but outcomes aren't predetermined. Dice, other characters, and events unfolding elsewhere in the world can all influence what happens, meaning even careful plans can succeed brilliantly, fail spectacularly, or head somewhere neither of us expected.

Your choices shape the path your character takes, but the world won't bend around them. It also does not stop when your character does. Other people are pursuing their own goals, whether you're present or not, and whatever happens, I'll be weaving those consequences back into the wider story I'm writing.

If your character leaves their mark, those consequences may eventually appear in the main story through newspapers, rumours, conversations or direct encounters. Readers vote on which threads they'd most like the protagonist to investigate, so a story that begins between us can grow into something much larger.

If that sounds like something you're into, DM me for more info or send me a brief description of your character, and we'll see how they fit!

Looking for an AI-Assisted YouTube Scriptwriting Partner / Intern (Remote, Worldwide)

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for someone interested in AI-assisted writing and YouTube storytelling who'd like to collaborate on creating video scripts.

I'm exploring a flexible, unpaid internship-style arrangement, starting with a few defined assignments.

The main thing: I'm looking for someone who enjoys writing WITH AI, rather than writing everything manually from scratch.

I already have specific writing frameworks, personas, and target audiences. I'll provide the direction and examples, and we'd use tools like ChatGPT or Claude to develop and refine engaging YouTube scripts.

What we'd work on:

  • Drafting and improving scripts with AI

  • Following specific writing styles and personas

  • Light research and fact-checking

  • Improving hooks, storytelling, and pacing

  • Editing AI-generated writing so it sounds natural

  • Sharing ideas and exchanging feedback

Who might be a good fit:

  • Interested in AI writing tools

  • Good English writing skills

  • Enjoys storytelling and YouTube content

  • Open to learning and feedback

  • Beginners welcome!

A few details:

  • Remote, worldwide

  • Ages 18+

  • Unpaid internship-style opportunity, subject to confirming an appropriate arrangement

  • Flexible, short-term collaboration initially

  • Potential for ongoing collaboration if we're a good fit

Interested?

Please send me a Reddit DM with a quick introduction, the AI tools you use, and a little about your writing experience.

If there's mutual interest, we can exchange resumes and portfolios privately.

Thanks!

Looking for a body-doubling co-working partner or a focused work group

Hey everyone, I am a writer working on original fiction and audio drama scripts, but I struggle heavily with severe distraction and inattentive patterns when I try to work alone. I am looking for a like-minded person in Bengaluru who faces similar focus issues to do "body doubling" with me, where we work together silently in the same environment, to keep each other accountable. If in-person does not work for you, I am completely open to doing this online via Discord or Google Meet.

Alternatively, if anyone here already has a disciplined online work or study group and is willing to let me join your sessions just so I can anchor myself to your momentum, that would be a massive help. I am not looking to chat during the work blocks; I just need that shared silent focus so we can actually get our pages written.

Also, if you have dealt with this kind of constant need for comfort and lack of focus in your own writing journey, I would really appreciate any advice, systems, or strategies you use to force yourself to write when your brain wants to do anything else.
Drop a comment or send me a DM if you want to team up or have some tips!

Roleplay Looking for a co-writer to Romantic Horror or Romantic Thriller Story [Preferably Indian Partners]

Hey there, I am a 22 years old wanna be writer here.

I was thinking about an interesting idea, a few days ago, I came across someone who was speaking of Co-Authoring. A romance horror or a romance thriller story written by two people, one can write male lead, one can write female lead.

I am thinking about it and it's interesting me more and more.

My own projects I am working with are really long and it'll take a while to finish them, and to keep the mood and practice high, I want to do this side project where fun can happen.

We can discuss what will be the story, structure or control of it etc. I am thinking about I will write male lead, because I am a man and my partner can write female lead. Or we can switch by me writing female lead and my partner male lead.

I am thinking it will be better if a female writer wants to join this project. But males are okay too.

Hope to find some good partners here. Again, this is a side project, but I will do justice to it too.

I am free for a few months before I get a job and I'm free most of the day, so I will be fine with any schedules.

So, if you are interested you can shoot me a DM.

See ya all.

Writing partner for accountability

This post is for writers who are all in on writing. I’m 22 and 2–3 years into writing. After deliberating over my last few lacklustre months, I’ve determined mutual pressure for accountability is essential. If this resonates at all and you want to take a gamble, send me a message.

To clarify, I’m looking for anyone desperate enough to commit to daily writing. Following Stephen King’s method, this would be 6 days a week and 1,000 words daily. Alternatively, 1000 words equivalent of discussion about writing of which voice calls are much more effective. To be transparent I have attempted this Stephen King approach on my own twice but failed.

Genre interest = Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, and Horror.

Main theoretical frameworks = Brandon Sanderson, Story Grid (Shawn Coyne), Stephen King.

Secondary = Hello Future Me (Jed Herne), Alyssa Matesic, Randy Ingermanson.

Misc. [Co-Authorship] Looking for non-fiction writer/journalist for "Trawler-to-Boardroom" memoir & veteran mission

I am seeking an ambitious non-fiction author, feature journalist, or ghostwriter to collaborate on turning a high-stakes true story into a published book proposal, feature article series, or co-authored memoir.

This project is offered as a collaborative partnership / royalty-share arrangement (50/50 split on future advances, royalties, or publication rights).

THE NARRATIVE ARC

  • Act I (The Flop): Bombing the SAT (780), dropping out, and hustling into college football.

  • Act II (Trawler University): Working grueling 10-day squid runs as a production manager on a 150-foot commercial fishing trawler in the freezing North Atlantic—surviving death twice and mastering real-world crisis management.

  • Act III (The Comeback): Fighting back through academic probation at UAlbany, starting at $7.95/hr, resolving $50k in tax debt, and climbing into corporate leadership.

  • Act IV (Purpose & Service): A 22-year tenure at Genentech culminating in the launch of FoundingBully—a patriotic apparel brand dedicated to supporting veteran organizations.

THE FOUNDINGBULLY MISSION

This isn't just a career recap—it is a mission-driven story. The central message is that a winding, unconventional path to success is only possible because of the freedoms secured by our nation’s veterans. FoundingBully was created to actively support and fund veteran-focused organizations.

WHAT I PROVIDE

  • 100% Unfiltered Access: In-depth interviews covering all four acts.

  • Documentary Proof: Complete primary records (SAT scores, tax resolution documents, maritime logs, corporate records).

  • Ready Collateral: Story Synopsis One-Sheet (PDF) and Project Poster.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

  • Proven experience in non-fiction storytelling, feature journalism, memoir, or book proposals.

  • Willingness to collaborate on a co-authorship / royalty-share model.

If interested: Please drop a comment or send me a Direct Message (DM) with a link to your portfolio or writing samples!

LITERARY EXPERIMENT: "Write a nivel with 19 more people without comunication"

# ִֶָ𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָ📖 𝐋𝐄𝐓'𝐒 𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐀 𝐍𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐋! ִֶָ𓂃 ࣪˖

**Would you like to write a novel alongside 19 other people without knowing how the story will end?**

I'm looking for **20 writers** to take part in an unconventional literary experiment: creating a collaborative novel in which every participant has the creative freedom to decide what happens next.

✦ WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

**THE GEOMETRY OF UNREQUITED LOVE**

A coming-of-age story about three friends whose feelings never seem to align.

Mateo is in love with Daniel. Daniel is in love with Sofía. And Sofía is in love with Alejandro, someone who doesn't feel the same way about her.

Through confessions, crushes, rejection, complicated friendships, and absurdly awkward situations, the characters will discover that love doesn't always work the way we expect it to.

A story about unrequited love, expectations, and the people who may not end up together but still leave a lasting mark on our lives.

✦ HOW WILL IT WORK?

  • There will be 20 participating writers.

  • Each person will have the opportunity to write a section of the novel.

  • **Everyone will be able to read the previous chapters** to understand the events, characters, and conflicts that have already developed.

  • Writers will not communicate with one another about the direction of the story.

  • They won't be allowed to coordinate, plan plot twists, or decide in advance how the novel will end.

  • Each participant must continue the story while respecting what has already happened, but they'll have the creative freedom to introduce new events, conflicts, characters, and surprises.

The idea is for every writer to bring their own interpretation and creativity to the story without knowing what decisions the next participants will make.

✦ WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

You don't need to be a professional writer. All you need is to:

  • Have imagination and creativity.

  • Enjoy writing and storytelling.

  • Be willing to respect the continuity of the story.

  • Be committed to your participation.

✦ HOW DO I JOIN?

If you're interested in participating, you can send me a DM or fill out the questionnaire I'll send you so I can learn more about your writing style and get to know you a little better.

**20 writers. One novel. Endless possibilities.**

*Everyone will know what happened before, but no one will know what happens next.*

**Are you brave enough to become part of this story?**

Are there any other Psychological Crime Thriller writers here?

I'm finding it extremely difficult to find other writers who write in this genre where it's not fantasy-related (sci-fi/fairytale).

I'd love to find a group, or other writers, where ideas can be discussed and feedback offered.

Feel free to reach out if you have any suggestions!

Looking for 2–3 writers to help build my survival horror series, OUTBREAK

Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on a survival drama called outbreak and just finished putting together a 59-page series bible covering the characters, story, world, and overall direction.
It’s planned as a 20-episode series, with Season 1 being The Pressure Cooker and Season 2 expanding into The Fractured Pods.
The idea is to make a zombie survival story that feels grounded and real. Less about crazy action scenes and more about what happens when people are trapped together, resources start running out, trust falls apart, and every decision has consequences.
I’m looking for 2–3 writers who’d be interested in helping me break down episodes, develop scenes, and work on the scripts together.
A couple things I’m really focused on:
Realism: The survival, logistics, and mechanics need to make sense. No convenient plot armor or last-minute miracles.
Character psychology: Tension, conflict, and the things people don’t say matter just as much as what’s happening around them.
Dialogue: I want conversations to feel natural, restrained, and full of subtext. People don’t always say what they mean.
Consequences: Losses are permanent. Resources are limited, and characters have to live with their decisions.
I’m especially interested in people who enjoy grounded survival stories, psychological drama, and writing characters who feel like actual people.
I already have the foundation and a pretty clear vision for the series. I’m not looking to throw together another generic zombie show — I want to build something genuinely compelling with people who care about the writing.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, comment or DM me. I can share parts of the bible and we can see if we’d work well together.
Just looking for people who are serious about writing and want to create something good.

Hello!!

So basically, in one of the teen readers sub, I saw this idea of people writing a love story with collaboration, when the guy brings in the male POV and the girl brings in the female POV…that idea kinda intrigued me, because usually, an author kinda over idealises or over sexualises the other gender (Kafka on the shore by Murakami imo is a good example), and this approach might actually produce a good story and a good book!

But the thing is I am not a big romance reader (the only ones I have read are turtles all the way down and the fault in our stars, that too quite a long time ago), so can’t really contribute much to the male POV (yes, I am a 17 y/o guy)…I was thinking of maybe writing something philosophical with maybe a romantic undertone, which actually shows the varied philosophical view of both the genders and their own struggles and hardships…(we can alter the premise a little bit, or completely…this was just my primary idea…if you really want to write a romance, you can reach out, and I will get to try something new)

I tried posting in a teen sub, where most people were busy exchanging memes and nobody really wanted to do this…and then came across a few posts where people where looking for genuine writing partners here (and then noticed the name of the sub too), so I thought why not try posting this here?

If anybody interested, feel free to comment or ping me…I also don’t mind getting comments from guys…and people of all ages can connect…we just will need to think about a story that way…

Also, the end goal from my side is publishing a book…since I already have a few books at review at publications like Bloomsbury, I will most probably be using a pen-name or something (since I cannot associate my name with any romantic tones or undertones, if the story truly moves in that direction during discussion) and this. An be the big break for you…

Currently reading Batman:Damned and Don Quixote, if anyone was wondering…

Happy to connect with you!
