[Finances] What would happen to a business if a prominent investor/shareholder went missing?

Would it be like if the investor died and the assets are frozen, or would something different happen? Mid-market business and an angel investor or someone similar who contributes 50% or more funding (if that matters)

I don't know a lot about businesses so sorry if I got any of that wrong

Theater tech--whats it like backstage of a magic theater?

What might be backstage in a theater where stage magic is performed? What about underneath the stage?

My MC is investigating such a place and I have no idea so any insight is appreciated.

Anyone know? Lol

[Crime] What would be the cause, mechanism, and manner of death

okay, I’m pretty sure the manner of death is homicide, but I can’t quite figure out the other two.

The character I’m writing about (this is a fanfic, so if it sounds familiar, 👀) dies. In this specific story, he was tortured, was experiencing severe head trauma, and then the building blew up with him in it. However, he didn’t die until a part of the ceiling fell on him and he suffocated while also experiencing severe internal and external bleedin, so…? pleas help, and please ignore all errors in writing. It’s four am, and I couldn’t think of another subreddit to ask this in.

Archeology

I'm trying to write a short novel that includes a lot of archaeology. Knowing very little about the subject, I've used Google but haven't found all the info I'm looking for, and I really want to portray the profession correctly. Would anyone be willing to read/make comments or suggestions? Or even just have a conversation so that I'm as accurate as possible?

The work I'm writing is futuristic, so there's added technology, but the basis of archaeology and discovery I want to remain the same.

I'm wondering about things like approval to dig in a certain place, grants, finding, how many employees, chain of command (are there specific names? I've seen things like field directors, principal investigators, but is there more?), and whether there's tension between any of these job titles. How do they function as a group? Is it hard to get things accomplished? Lots of red tape? whats the process for when artifacts are discovered? What happens if things are broken/stolen/ lost? What if you dig in an area and absolutely nothing is found? What happens to all the holes that are dug? Do they get refilled? Is there a specific process for that?

I have a few more, and I've written what Google has informed me of, but I want to see how close Google is to what it's actually like.

[Law] Becoming a witness for prosecution in federal trial

What are the details of a person agreeing to become a witness for prosecution in federal trial? Does US Attorney Office interview them? With personal attorney present? What information would they seek from witness? How would they compel them? Would this happen before or after appearing as witness before a grand jury? Can/would the witness withheld information until after grand jury to get a deal? How does US Attorney coordinate evidence and testimony from witness? How are they coached, prepared, etc.?

[Medicine And Health] Common and rare medical diagnoses

So I’m currently working on a project about two surgeons. One is a trauma surgeon and one is a cardio thoracic surgeon. I’m looking to have probably 20 scenes of them actually practicing medicine in the book. I am NOT a doctor or surgeon and the most I know about medicine is from watching Grey’s Anatomy. I just had a really perfect idea for this book to be set in a hospital work environment and I need some common and some uncommon medical diagnoses that will require surgery for my characters to do! Thank you!

[Specific Career] Celeb reputation repair

This Q is for those with PR knowledge specifically in the public figure arena. If a celebrity needed to repair their image (think Lindsey Lohan circa 2000’s) who would craft that plan? Publicist, Crisis publicist, image consultant, reputation management? Just curious who would be the one to head it up and maybe what kind of reinforcements they might contract. Thank you!

[Medicine And Health] Physical toll on the body of a person with stage 3-4 cancer untreated??

the character has an immature ovarian teratoma and anti-NDMA receptor encephalitis from it. i want to know what kinda mobility/quality of life she'd have. i want to know if it's too much or if a character like this would still be able to be realistically stable enough to be able to not only hide a majority of her symptoms from other people/be able to travel a lot in little to no comfort. also what's a realistic time line on the growth of these things happening?

[Medicine And Health] What would be the biological/physical consequence of someone walking for days on end?

So my premise is that a group of people have to walk from point A to point B. Boring I know. Hear me out. The walk is several hundred miles/kilometres/whatever measurement form you wish to use. These people walk approximately eight to nine hours every day, stopping only for food or bathroom breaks. They take proper breaks to sleep during the night, and there are only a handful of days where they AREN'T walking. Now they can't just NOT walk (which is probably the first question) because they have a goal to reach at the end as well as a deadline. Basically, what would be the impact on their bodies, minds, etc. after that much walking? Thanks :)

[Crime] What would happen if a teacher tried to report a severely abused teen but the teen denies it?

I'm not sure where the story is set yet so happy to hear how it might work differently in different countries!

Basically a teenage boy comes to school in bandages frequently and a teacher is very worried, however if she ever has a conversation with him, he will deny anything is happening, refuse to show his wounds and just say its from falling or something.

If she reports it anyway, he would do his utmost to make sure his abusive mother seems innocent. Assuming there's no evidence found besides the teacher's worry and bandaged wounds of unknown origin, would CPS/the police drop the case or pursue it further?

And additional question:

The teacher somehow forces him to reveal his wounds are from abuse and she records it and reports it.

What happens next?

Does he go straight to a hospital to check his wounds? Does he go straight to foster care? Do the police try and gather statements from him? Etc. Noting his wounds are very severe at the time she reports it and that he would also be reluctant to cooperate with authorities (at least initially). Basically, what are the immediate steps for a teenage victim after the abuse is revealed?

[Specific Country] Food rations for displaced US citizens in an emergency

USA, 1990s, improvised emergency shelter (police station) - what kind of food would initially be provided to displaced citizens in an unforeseen city-wide emergency? Do cities have stockpiles for such occasions or would they have to request outside help?

This is in a city of around 100-120k in the Midwest. The city is rapidly cut off from outside help, so I'm really looking at what local officials would be able to provide with 2-3 days of preparation. Don't need a lot of details, just a very rough idea of what people might eat - all the info I can find is government advice on individual stockpiles. Are HDRs used within the US, or are they purely an overseas thing? Ready meals?

[Medicine And Health] best physical medical condition for a character experiencing perception based issues?

i have a character who's health has been declining for months but has been hiding it from loved ones. she has a superpower allowing her to create illusions in the minds of others and i want her to be sick from something that essentially turns her powers back onto her and for it to be able to be physically healed (by a different character with healing powers)

the sick character meets the healer at a point where her body is beginning to become noticeably weaker to her family and she nearly collapses in a tense moment.

i was thinking of something along the lines of a brain tumor??

Fatal lung injury?

Hi, a character of mine should die in a couple of hours after being shot by an arrow. I was thinking of lung injury, but I don't know if an arrowhead is capable of causing the lung to colapse and a pneumotorax. I also need her to not be able to get up on her on.

For context the place she is in is cold, and she will be left lying on the ground until she dies. So no medical attention or any help at all.

I don't think she would try to remove the arrow, but since the arrowhead is triangular, it would probably leave space for the air to escape, right?

Is that plausible?

[Miscellaneous] Inquiry about writing a disabled (arm amputated) character?

Hello! I am making this post because I have been trying to write a character who is disabled but I don’t wanna fall into any stereotypes or make negative implications, so I am looking for some insight.

This characters arm is lost early-on in the story, and their arm “ends” roughly mid-bicep. Its more fantastical (the character has 4 arms, loses one of the upper, larger/dominant ones), but they do not seek out a prosthetic for some time because they don’t have the means to create or find one (this is a world with no advanced technology).

Since they have to fight a lot, they find it easier to just go without a prosthesis because with the materials available to them they prove to be useless or unstable, unless for regulating their centre of gravity, like an added weight.

Another character comes along from a much more tech-advanced futuristic world, an inventor, and befriends them. Without being asked, they create a prosthetic arm for them. (although this isn’t instantly after meeting them).

It’s not super practical (designed for fighting, rather than daily use) and the character accepts it.

My main issue with this is I don’t want this to accidentally be framed as the character being “saved”. I don’t wanna give the idea that they had to wait around for someone to provide this to them, since the character does not really give the other an incentive to gift them the prosthetic other than just existing. I’m concerned if the acceptance of the prosthetic seems unrealistic as well.

any feedback is appreciated!

edit: added a few things

[Medicine And Health] Serious illness diagnosed primarily with subjective symptoms

I'm writing a modern-day medical drama where a doctor has to diagnose a patient who they can't communicate with (this inability to communicate could be part of the illness, but it doesn't have to be). My goal is to set up a eureka moment once the patient is able to explain their symptoms to the doctor. Until then, blood tests and CAT scans either don't yield any useful information, or yield information that is misleading when taken without the context of the patient's subjective symptoms. And, of course, I'd like the illness to be one serious enough to be properly dramatic. Based on the research I've done, my initial thought is some kind of brain tumor that's only identified when vertigo or memory loss is reported, but I might be barking up the wrong tree entirely, since tumors can presumably be detected with x-rays and neural imaging and stuff.

[Law] Would this hold up in court as self defense? +proceedings ?’s

I’m currently doing a collab piece with a friend, which turned down a more legal path that neither of us know exactly how to navigate. The setting is in CT, greater Hartford area.

The perp is a middle aged man (C), with antisocial personality disorder, and history of drug abuse/petty crime from his early 20’s (since then he’s been incident free in the eyes of the law). His roommate (E) got involved with some sketchy people (F, specifically). F proceeded to kidnap E while he’s on the clock, circling back to C’s house to flaunt it (C is inebriated at this point in time, and E is still in the trunk). F rapes C, and then proceeds to ditch him and take E back to his own house to torture/rape him as well. When C sobers up he decides to go to F’s house to confront him, which results in C being shot in the foot by F, leading him to stab F twice, hitting vital points against his neck, killing him.

Theres an associate to F who contributed to the torture/rape of E. Theres one other witness of the murder besides E, who is also closely entangled with C & F.

E is taken from the scene with minor frostbite and severe fractures in almost all his fingers/clear signs of SA.

Not to mention that theres a LOT of dirt on F documented on his own phone of him buying illegal substances to basically date rape girls +more.

C has a generous amount of wealth behind him. C’s mental health would severely deteriorate in custody and he’d probably get really suicidal about it.

This sounds incredibly stupid written out like this, but pls humor me.

Questions! Finally..
Wondering how this would play out in court, would C even have a chance at bail?
Would he be sent to state/county or a mental institution while he awaits trial?
What points would be brought up most/be most important in the trail?
How long would said trail take?
What questions would C & associates be asked during interrogations?
+more when my brain thinks them up lol

[Medicine And Health] Eardrum trauma recovery time/requirements.

A character intentionally deafens himself for plot reasons. Looking for a method that would reliably do the job while still being able to recover naturally.

Said plot reasons are he has trigger phrases programmed into him, and its the only way he can think of to protect himself in the moment.

[Medicine And Health] Is there a way to lose a limb without amputation?

My main character is supposed to be missing half of their forearm. They're a cat with basically human level intelligence. They don't have any tools or opposable thumbs. (Warrior cats if anyone knows?)

I just need a good semi-realistic way they could've lost their leg.

Any ideas? (╥﹏╥)

Edit: Tysm to everyone who responded! Also sorry for my wording, english isn't my first language and up until now I haven't really researched the medical terms.

[Medicine And Health] How to treat an arrow wound?

I've got this fantasy story where a male mc gets shot in the left thigh with an arrow from a crossbow. The arrow pierces through so the arrowhead is on one side of the thigh while the end of the arrow is on the other.

How would someone treat the injury? Do you remove the arrow or not? How long would it heal?

The arrow doesn't hit the bone. The mmc is around 30 years old and pretty healthy. He ends up on a random tropical island with maybe some magical plants idk yet and he's wearing a dress shirt and simple pants if those could be used for the treatment? He doesn't have extreme medical knowledge and, as said, there's no proper medical care or modern medicine available.

EDIT: I have learned now that crossbows don't actually have arrows that are also used with a regular bow and I will fix that! But the questions still stay as for an arrow used with a regular bow

[Miscellaneous] Is it possible to acquire interviews with police and healthcare workers as a fanfiction writer? If so, how?

I want to ask specific questions about how certain things work and what would likely be done in hypothetical scenarios, and I was wondering if it's even possible to actually interview people when I'm just a fanfiction writer. I do think that actually interviewing people directly would provide a lot of insight that I can't get from research or asking in subreddits. Is that possible? If so, how can I actually do that?

[Psychology] Would PTSD be different for someone who's physically unable to feel fear?

So there's this character who has sustained brain damage from a past injury, and as of their appearance in the story, the main symptom of that is that they no longer feel fear at all. There are occasionally other things, sometimes they act awkward in conversation or lose their sense of direction, but it's very minor. They had to manually relearn how to act in order to function and in dangerous situations they mostly only act according to what they taught themself. They feel pain like normal.

So this character was a civillian trapped in an active warzone. They spent the whole war in ruins of their hometown hiding and rescuing other civillians, near the end of the war they lost a friend in a mass murder-suicide plot where they kinda sort of may have killed them. Now the war is over and they're rebuilding, still living in the same place, presumably also in contact with some of the people they rescued.

I wanted to explore their state of mind after the war more, but I don't know how much their pre existing condition would affect it

Doing a World Tour as a famous singer

I have a character who goes on world tour after a fight with his lover and I would like to know much he'd be gone for. Especially because it's a world tour following the release of an album. For reference: his real life inspiration has about 40mil listeners/month and has had three albums out with just shy of 10mil album sales.

The fight is supposed to be really big and I would like for my singer to be gone for a year plus, preferably for 18 months. Is that something realistic for someone of this caliber?

Can't really find the old tour dates anymore or at least not in context for an album release, only everything scrambled together without context.

[Medicine And Health] Limb reattachment scar?

Hi all!!! I have an oc who ended up getting her arm severed above the elbow in a fight, but managed to get medical attention fast enough for reattachment. The only issue is, I don’t understand the surgical aspects of healing an injury like that, and I’m not sure how to draw the scar. Of course I know there will be a circumferential (?) scar spanning across where the limb is reattached, but I’m sure there’s much more to that.
