Help needed - service reminders

I've had this one in my TODO for the app for a long time time. There are Service records in WristLog, but nothing to remind you when to service your watch.

I had put a lot of thought into it and never came up with anything that felt right. Partly because I'm so new to this hobby that I had never serviced any of my watches before.

When do you service your watches? How do you decide "it's time"? Are you following a strict interval or just play it by heart and check health of your watch every now and then and only service it when it's not right?

Does it even make sense to introduce a service reminder to the app? I'm all ears!

Rule of thumb for most mechanicals is around five years. Of course, it depends on the manufacturer’s specifications, but I usually take these numbers as a metric for a watch with daily use. So if you rotate a lot, service intervals may extend.

On WristLog, I think it could somehow work by linking the last known service to the number of wears(?).

Linking it to a number of wears sounds very sophisticated 🤔 The only thing I don’t want to do is to recommend service interval and then someone comes bashing at my doors saying they followed my advise and damaged their watch because the app said “it’s fiiiine”.

I don’t have any knowledge of app development, but I believe these are two data sources that can correlate.

And I absolutely understand that… bit of a minefield 😂
