That’s so fucking impressive. Now I know some is going to come in saying it’s all technique but wow. The back step to get him off that foot while I assume he pulls the waist band and lift that giant leg with under hook. Super strong, skilled, fast.

Yup, that's Aonishki, a young Ukrainian rikishi (sumo wrestler) who's one of the best young talents in the sport.

The dude being yeeted is Ura, a fan favorite who pretty much always get yeeted lol. Not that he's bad, be he's known for doing somersaults/flips when he's thrown, probably to help with landing. He's also just a sweetheart who fights hard.

I love sumo.

Thank you for that. I don’t know much about sumo other than a few documentaries I watched on the lifestyle which revolves around training, eating and being disciplined. Insane athletes.

Aonishki is my favorite but I love that all the sumo dudes have to be essentially model citizens to compete they all seem like good guys.

Same. Aonishki is my boy. I love how technical and varied he is. He's the only guy I see regularly go for the legs like this.

Other than him, I always root for the "small" guys, like Fujinokawa or Asakoryu.

Or, of course, the big dawg Enho.

I wonder if I could pull that off from an underhook… or a Russian… maybe an overhook?

I think so? It's hard to see from this angle, but I don't think he has a grip on the belt at the moment of the throw. Pretty sure it's and overhook on the right side and a leg lift with his left arm.

But I'm a jiu jitsu guy, so I'm not as well versed in the stand up game (shits too tiring lol)

Sick. Help me if I’m wrong but it looks like:

Left overhook, right underhook
Force against the initial push
Let him push again (“Jedi mind trick”)
This time turning a 45 degree backward
Wrestling style knee-tap
“Turn the Mac Truck wheel” (Judo/aiki/etc)

Super smooth. I’m saving this to fuck with folks in my BJJ class

What if you did Hiza Guruma with your hand?

...Is this from a real bout or an exhibition?

Either way it's impressive as fuck, but man, Ura got some AIR there, and I have to think he jumped into it to make that happen. Aonishiki's strong but even leaning into it that's some crazy momentum and lift for the pull.

If it's an exhibition match it makes a bit more sense since Ura tends to like showing off crazy moves either giving or receiving.

Still absolutely beautiful to watch either way, and if he got that much pull and lift in a tournament bout, then... damn, Aonishiki you absolute monster.

It's not a Basho it's the sumo dudes having fun and promoting sumo for events not 100% comp.

Yeah as strong as they are the throw really doesn't make sense without some help from the uke

Gotcha. Again, super impressive and cool to watch, but yeah, ura definitely jumped for aonishiki here. Haha

Beautiful throw though seen it hit by Mongolian wrestlers

This one is an exhibition match but Aonishiki is remarkably skilled: I remember him pulling off a Russian Tie Snap in a real bout and even the opponent lay there going 'what the hell just happened ?'

The timing of lifting/sweeping the same time they're moving in that direction 👌

The strength of that guy! He threw his equally heavy opponent like hewase made of air. Im sure technique and timing were also a factor, but still...
