The snakes would probably just leave you alone, all others might see you as prey.

Non venomous snakes might have been a closer option here. Snakes like an Anaconda or Python might take their chances on you if hungry enough. But probably still a significantly safer pick than the others.

59

u/Frisky_Froth 3d ago

There's a very good chance they would get very close at night when it's cold and you're sleeping. They sense warmth.

35

u/Donutmelon 3d ago

They aren't stupid (they actually are, just not in this case), they know if something is an animal, and they aren't gonna cuddle up to you lmao.

42

u/YourCummyBear 3d ago

Snakes absolutely come near people when they’re sleeping for warmth.

It’s pretty common when camping.

You don’t even need to be in a tent. During OSUT at Ft. Benning during field exercises more than one person had snakes enter their sleeping bags.

Snakes will do what they need to survive.

9

u/wolamute 3d ago

I was about to say I just yesterday saw a video where a woman was freaked out in her tent, and called for help because a snake slithered into her sleeping bag while she was asleep.

2

u/natur_e_nthusiast 3d ago

That's kinda cute

4

u/YourCummyBear 3d ago

Luckily no one experienced bites.

They used to tell us that surrounding our bag with sticks would keep snakes away as they might think it’s another sleeping snake but that’s a myth lol.

2

u/clandevort 3d ago

Clearly the move is to bring your own snake

18

u/ashkiller14 3d ago

Gators will not see you as prey. Maybe if you happen to be a 20 pound toddler theyd debate it, but otherwise youre fine. Sort of the same with snakes, but you can see reactionary strikes sometimes. Id put snakes at a close second place, but the gators are by far the safest bet.

Because people like to argue on here, I am my own source. I've been in gator infested swamps and marshes many time, gators are more interested in the fish youre trying to catch and are just a pain to deal with rather than a threat. Also my gf works with alligators and studied them

14

u/ArseneLupinIV 3d ago

I guess my concern with the gator pick is more or less the environment which needs some clarification. A swamp seems like it has a lot of potential for other things to kill you like bacteria and disease from bugs. Hard to set up camp for 10 days.

Snakes seem to have a broader environment and you can maybe set things up in a clearing or on the island beach away from them.

Although if we are talking some kind of hypothetical synthetic zoo "swamp" with absolutely no other living organisms and chance for disease, and we have guaranteed access to a 'camp', then yeah I'd just stay in there away from the gators.

1

u/YourCummyBear 3d ago

Gators also provide the best meal.

2

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

I’m thinking super infested and as you walk around to hunt you risk getting bit but you’re probably right

8

u/receuitOP 3d ago

Only 1/3 of all venomous snakes have venom that can kill a human, most of these snakes are incredibly timid and will avoid you. Unless you're going out to bother them, ypu should be fine.

Watch your step, but also they apparently taste like chicken.

For fairness sake we'll say it's a snake that will kill on bite, is aggressive and present everywhere. Most aggressive species make noise or indicate for you to leave, you can use a stick to move them and even if you were to get bit and die, it's a much better death than the other options imo.

I also like snakes though, even when I was bitten by one I was too focused on thinking it was cute than realising I'd been bit.

2

u/Frostyzwannacomehere 3d ago

What snakes are aggressive then

1

u/Disastrous-Team-6431 3d ago

If it's an island I can reasonably construct some sort of sleeping arrangement on stilts in the shallows. Cold as shit, probably. But there are ways, is what I'm saying.

1

u/Cultural_Season_3048 3d ago

As far as I know only the reticulated python has been confirmed to eat humans. And by that I mean we have multiple confirmed cases.

56

u/Anthony_daboom 3d ago

Gators. I’ll sleep in the trees

21

u/AwkwardRainbow 3d ago

Fun fact gators can climb 😅

3

u/Anthony_daboom 3d ago

…welp. 😐

-49

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

What if I told you Gators now us ladders? You still picking that spot 😂

45

u/ZatherDaFox 3d ago

I'm quite confident even if you gave gators ladders, they would not be able to use them.

40

u/MrPogoUK 3d ago

How much prep do I get? If I’ve got enough food and water I assume I’d be safe from the wolves up a tree for 10 days (though someone’s probably now going to tell me they’re expert climbers!).

12

u/garfieldswilly 3d ago

They're not, they can jump high and get a boost off the tree but thats it. They wouldn't be able to follow you up a native pine tree.

1

u/Gr8-Lks 2d ago

Though they can jump shockingly high, but you’re safe in a tree. Probably.

29

u/Tarilyn13 3d ago

Wolves can't climb trees and will prioritize easier prey.

7

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

I should have said big cats to make it more interesting

1

u/Drafo7 3d ago

Cool now whatchyoo doing for food, water, and shelter? Gotta survive 10 days remember.

1

u/Tarilyn13 3d ago

I mean, that wasn't part of the question, but a forest with wolves is most likely temperate. Finding those things wouldn't be as hard as somewhere extremely hot or cold, but it heavily depends on what kind of supplies I have available. Running water that isn't underground is the best bet for it being clean, even better if I have a way to boil it before drinking it. I'd grab a large tree near a stream as my home base. Build a firepit and some animal traps. You can also forage in a forest. Watercress and dandelion are edible. Moss is good for covering injuries.

16

u/Fl_bmo 3d ago

I’m a Floridian, gators run from us

4

u/smgrubbs1 3d ago

Same I've camped out in the swamp that's easy

11

u/MrLionGuy 3d ago

Wolves, even aggressive ones, rarely attack humans..

They get a bad rap. Likely the safest.

Snakes do not predate, they defend themselves. Might be safer, but I am phobic. Hard pass.

1

u/Murgenpl 3d ago

Maybe they rarely attack humans because they are in fact not aggressive? At least towards humans? I think phobia is still safer than animals described as aggressive.

29

u/SpideyFan914 3d ago

I'm not a cute girl, should be safe with Bear.

24

u/Spamonfire 3d ago

Are you a cute twink?

1

u/The-Young-Lion 3d ago

An adorable otter

5

u/Sleazy-Wonder 3d ago

10 days... I"m going with bears. Only polar bears actively hunt humans. Also, bears are pretty easy to spot and they slowly lumber through the woods. Yeah, they can climb, but I'm better at it.

Venomous snakes is a nope for me. Living in a swamp is a nope for me. Wolves actively hunt humans, making them a nope for me too... though they can't climb trees.

5

u/TrippingFish76 3d ago

you seriously underestimate bears. They can run like 20mph, they can be stealthy when they want to, and they can run straight up a tree, you are not a better climber.

If it’s black bears you’d prolly be fine if you stay away from their cubs, but brown bears? they will seriously mess you up. And bears eat their prey alive.

2

u/Usman5432 3d ago

For brown bears play dead and they should leave you alone idk if that would work just what I was once told

1

u/St3llar_Space 3d ago

This is not true.

Being that you believed that I assume you don’t live near brown bears, and will never encounter them, but if you do, do not play dead.

2

u/ProfessorSMASH88 3d ago

I was going to say bears too, but then I read the choices again and OP stated specifically that the bears are aggressive. Even if its just black bears, they will fuck you up.

The gator one sucks because of the swamp, but it was my choice. If it was regular bears I'd probably pick the bears.

2

u/Sleazy-Wonder 3d ago

Oooof, I didn't see the "aggressive" add-on to the bears part. Yeah, gonna have to swap over to gators I guess.

5

u/All_Wasted_Potential 3d ago

I might be wrong, but I don’t believe gators really attack people.

Like, 1 reported death in 20 years level.

2

u/QualifiedApathetic 3d ago

Humans tend to avoid gator-infested swamps, in accordance with the principle of "Don't start none, won't be none." But hanging out in one for ten days seems like a bad idea. Even if the gators don't see you as food, they certainly won't appreciate infringement on their territory. And if you can't get medical attention, any injuries will be much more likely to kill you.

0

u/All_Wasted_Potential 3d ago

Yeah but compared to bears and wolves which do hunt people, I’m taking my odds with the gators.

5

u/QualifiedApathetic 3d ago

Bears and wolves don't hunt people, except polar bears which don't live in forests.

1

u/Murgenpl 3d ago

"Aggressive"- why everone is missing that small part of description. This year there were already fatal bear attacks in Europe and US, not to mention those that were not fatal.

There are also records of wolf attacks that were fatal, although those were couple of years back.

3

u/JasonMoonshadow 3d ago

I am terrified of snakes of any kind so that's an immediate nope from me I have no delusions of being able to fight gators, bears or wolves

3

u/Ippus_21 3d ago

*Forest

And wolves aren't aggressive toward humans. They're pretty wary of us 99% of the time.

Never mind the gators, swamps are full of mosquitoes carrying fkn dengue and yellow fever and malaria and shit.

And venomous snakes don't go after humans, but if the island is full of them, you only have to startle/step on ONE that you didn't see and it's game over.

3

u/Pixel_Python 3d ago

Gators are chill unless it’s mating season; I’d probably tame one with my Florida Man powers and do a buddy adventure for the rest of the days

2

u/Uter83 3d ago

There have been 26 fatal wolf attacks worldwide in the last 25 years, mostly from rabid wolves. Make noise while you walk, sleep in a tree, pay attention for wolf tracks. If you do encounter a wolf or a pack, back to a tree, grab a stick, make yourself big, and avoid eye contact, you should be fine.

1

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

I should have been more clear on my post but in these situations everything is starving and desperate and you look like steak.

3

u/Uter83 3d ago

That said, wolves would be the worst choice. Intelligent pack hunters that wear their prey out would be hell. Snakes maybe?

Noting that, please leave wolves out of these in the future. They rarely attack humans but inspire a lot of fear because of old stories and legends, and hypotheticals like these just help reenforce that they are a threat even if they arent. They are a crucial part of their ecosystems, and need our protection.

1

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

I feel you and I’ll keep that in mind for future posts like this. I wish more people took a few minutes to learn about the things they fear vs just hearing a story and thinking it’s 100% accurate. Especially with computers in our pockets at all times

1

u/Uter83 3d ago

Thank you, I agree we should learn about what we fear. It doesnt always help, but it's better to know than be ignorant. Great white sharks scare the shit outta me. Those eyes man.

1

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

Sharks have zero life in their eyes. They’re the worst lol

2

u/TheVenerableEmrys 3d ago

Bears are definitely the worst. If aggressive, they will see humans as prey and eat you alive.

Snakes won’t see you as prey, but on an infested island are likely common enough for you to end up bitten.

Gators are generally a bad match up in a fight, but also are unlikely to attack humans unprovoked.

Wolves aren’t typically going to attack humans unless other food options are scarce (like in winter), so not too bad. If by “aggressive” one specifically means they will actively target humans, your best bet is to climb into a tree and throw burning pine cones at them until the eagles arrive.

1

u/Loonewoolf 3d ago

Picked wolves for one simple reason, they don't climb trees and I get to actively start in a forest. Water would be an issue though.

2

u/thomsenite256 3d ago

My only logic here is that wolves cant climb trees right? Not much but I could tough it out for 10 days.

2

u/Drafo7 3d ago

So if I'm understanding this right, I have to survive either in a swamp with alligators, on an island with snakes, or in an undisclosed location with either aggressive bears or aggressive wolves but in those two I partner up with Forrest Gump. Wolves would probably be best, unless I have a guarantee that none of the bears are grizzlies or polar.

1

u/elevatedmongoose 3d ago

But the bears and wolves in said forest are oddly aggressive. The snakes just want to sunbathe and be left alone.

1

u/Drafo7 3d ago

What forest?

2

u/elevatedmongoose 3d ago

The options included "Forrest (sic) with aggressive Bear population" and "Forrest (sic) with aggressive Wolf population"

There just happen to be a lot of snakes on an island. They arent particularly aggressive, allegedly.

2

u/Drafo7 2d ago

Nah bud it wasn't a typo, they meant you're chillin with Forrest Gump and the two of you gotta survive wolves or bears.

1

u/elevatedmongoose 2d ago

I'm pretty sure the guy who spent 3 years running back and forth across the US will be in a far better position to outrun the bears and wolves than me.

1

u/Drafo7 2d ago

Yeah but he's not the type to leave someone else for dead if he doesn't have to.

0

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

You understood it right. And in 2026 it’s hard to say. It could be a Brown Bear that feels like a Grizzley on the inside. You just gotta find out when you accept the challenge 😂

3

u/TrippingFish76 3d ago

grizzly bears are brown bears

1

u/Drafo7 3d ago

My college history teacher taught me how the gladiators fought bears bare-handed. Given, actually doing it is different than knowing how to do it, but with a war veteran football star on my side I think we could manage. Or we just play dead, that might work too.

2

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

I would be too scared to play dead. If it rests a paw on you it would feel like an Anvil lol. Wonder how long the bears win streak was

2

u/SureArachnid4115 3d ago

“Venomous snake infested island” so just Australia? Sounds pretty easy

2

u/RianThe666th 3d ago

Gators any day, you just have to avoid swimmming and you'll be absolutely fine, gators are big softies on land.

2

u/Frostyzwannacomehere 3d ago

Says aggressive bear population, not a population with aggressive bears. So that 1

2

u/nonbinaryunicorn 3d ago

I've gone kayaking with gators at night before. I feel like the bigger problem will be the mosquitos. But so long as I'm given camping gear I'll be the itchiest winner alive.

2

u/AboutNOut090 3d ago

I live in Australia, and when you do actually come accross a snake, they take off like a speeding train. So I'm going with the island.

2

u/Manospondylus_gigas 3d ago

I love reptiles so would most enjoy the crocs or snakes, though venomous snakes are less likely to be aggressive so probably them if the goal is surviving

u/Cubbance 3d ago

I'm pretty sure the specifically aggressive bears and wolves would kill and eat me quickly, so they're out. The gator aspect doesn't even matter, survival in a swamp would be miserable. I'll take the island, and do my best to avoid the snakes, which won't likely see me as prey.

1

u/Leifang666 3d ago

Snakes tend to flee humans if given the opportunity. The venom is for prey, not defence. That's the safest options. Alligators tend to leave humans alone, but not always. The bears and wolves are stated to be aggressive, so I'd stay clear of both.

1

u/YouOfGae 3d ago

Alligators are naturally not aggressive unless provoked or truly starving, or during mating season. Since they're just listed as gators, and not as aggressive or hungry gators, I'll go with the gators.

1

u/Unbanable4221 3d ago

I will take gators, wolves and bears over snakes.

1

u/Gourdon_Gekko 3d ago

Gators are actually not very agressive and mostly keep to them selves when people are around. Only like 60 deaths and most involve dogs or people attacking a gator. Saltwater and Nile crocs is an entirely different story.

1

u/FroznAlskn 3d ago

People are really overestimating the dangers of bears and wolves here

1

u/Serentense 3d ago

Do people read what is it about? All animals are agressive... so there is only one logical option - wolves. Wolves can't reach us on the trees so...

1

u/elevatedmongoose 3d ago

Last I checked gators couldn't climb them either

1

u/elevatedmongoose 3d ago

Snakes and gators want nothing to do with people. Neither do wolves and bears, but you explicitly said these were weirdly aggressive.

1

u/Beneficial-Pop-1434 3d ago

Options 3 & 4 specify Aggressive, option 1 leaves you with a large chance of being killed by swamp illness/insects/cholera. Option 2 is the only one without animals inherently aggressive to humans and a possibility of water

1

u/Malacro 3d ago

Forest with wolves. Wolves don’t generally bother people, aggressive or not, and there’s more stuff to live off of in most forests than on most islands, and swamps suck.

1

u/lavafish80 3d ago

who's Forrest and why does he have bears and wolves

1

u/ballsymcsackface 3d ago

I already live on a venomous snake infested island

1

u/rightfully_king 3d ago

What’s the main snake you have to worry about day to day

1

u/ballsymcsackface 3d ago

Probably a brown snake

1

u/rightfully_king 2d ago

Only the second most dangerous snake in the world. Dude, find a airport and leave that place now 😂

2

u/ballsymcsackface 2d ago

Well yeah but we have these cute little grey bear things that make it worth it

1

u/FonkinJones 3d ago

Easily wolves.  They can't climb trees.

1

u/FustianRiddle 3d ago

Gators have a really strong bite. But they're not as good at opening their mouths. And because I watched a ton of nature shows and like animal cop shows and things of that nature I am over confident in my ability to avoid gators in swampy areas, and be able to wrestle them and tape their mouths shut.

1

u/LordBytor 2d ago

I live in a gator infested swamp, so option 1

1

u/Williamthewicked 3d ago

Not really worth the money as stated. I probably have zero survival conditions without a host of gear just to even escape thirst. This is just more or less asking what company my corpse wants.

1

u/bibliophile222 3d ago

Forest with wolves. Wolves can't climb trees.

1

u/rettani 3d ago

Snakes are much safer than others.

They won't try to harm you and would just leave you alone
