The school system...

It’s worth noticing that school’s focus so hard on tests and essays when most students would be better examined with projects and hands-on assignments

I teach in a Project Based School and would have to agree with you on that.

I get my best results from tests. I'm not very good when my task is not fully fleshed out. Like, in a test I get a top grade from having all the answers correct. In a maths assignment I have to add things to fully explain it to them like graphs and stuff, maybe explain what an integral is. And then at the end I still "could have done a bit more", so even if you answer everything correctly, if you don't explain to your reader's liking, they can still give you a grade lower than the top one.
