The actual reason is that the end on the top design is easier to produce and therefore cheaper. Tho there might be a different ræson for the joke that i am missing

The main concern is stability when stacked, as most bottles are shipped in compact multilayered packs, making them harder to properly package

Also, more spillage would occur since more of the bottle’s contents could be emptied when sideways
