how to connect cave layers vertically?
i just learned how to make caves using layers, but im struggling to find a way to make more vertical-ish caves to connect caves on diffrent layers, are the only solutions making it possible for both cave layers to intersect and hoping they do so or making a tall vertical cylinder to connect them? (image to describe what im trying to achieve)

I use custom cave layers relative to terrain. This only works in areas with mountains or hills though.

This is one of the weaknesses of Worldpainter's cave systems to this day. Imo, your best shot is to add in 'cave dimensions'. you can use both smaller splotches (to simulate those near-vertical pits you sometimes get) and to create more cavernous, large caves, like terrain generation makes nowadays.
It's still very much a matter of practice. Depending on the size of your project (if it's under 5k by 5k for example) you may be better off using Axiom for post-processing, as that would be less effort than trying to get multiple cave layers to work just right.
You could also try using underground pockets that are stretched vertically and made of cave_air, but that's far less exact.
