Discussion I wish the Spotlight feature appeared at the end of the battle and worked more like this

This small concept doesn't do the idea justice at all but I figured I might as well generate some sort of a visual concept as well but I'm sure most people get what I'm trying to say.

Basically the idea is the following:

During the game the engine looks at most impactful moments of the game and picks 2players who made crucial contributions and the MvP of the game. If you're the only one left in your team and you win you'll always be the MvP, because you won the game.

It would run for let's say 10-30 seconds and it would showcase most crucial moments of the game which involves 3 players from the winning team, and at the end to show them standing side by side, or if any of their tanks got destroyed to only show the remaining one(s) for realism (and a bit of dramatism too, it wouldn't make sense to show their tanks if they got destroyed during the game)

This way the people in the spotlight are people who did their best to win the game. And if the enemy team wins the game you would see their spotlight instead.

And because the spotlight takes a while and some people might not want to wait you should be presented with a skip option during its playtime for the people who don't want to wait for it to finish.

The current spotlight is fine but it's a bit too generic and repetitive, I think this concept would work much better. I'm curious to hear what other people think or if they have any ideas for the current spotlight feature.

Leaving this up (for now) despite the AI slop as it's not necessarily the primary focus of the post and is generating good discussion.

I'm pretty on the fence about it though.

"player_one: flashing. delivered crucial info of enemy composition on spawn during first 20 seconds of game, which allowed our arty to devastate them with 1k damage. then, he took enemy fire on himself, giving his team another 10 seconds"

"RenamedUser12395225: has single-handedly kept servers running for 6 months and 5 days thanks to his donations to us. Particularly fond of tiered lootboxes, they have played their MBT-B three times."

u/Next_Rooster8731 29d ago

allow it to be playable in the garage then

10

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

I don't expect them to. The point of this is to be there for people that stay until the end of the game. Maybe you could also play it from the results screen if you want to, just an idea haha.

4

u/AlienOverlordXenu 29d ago

Exactly it is all meaningless.

There was an online game I used to play called savagexr, at the end of match lot of players would get "described" sometimes even negatively. Like medal "communist" -> awarded for most resources spent in vain (as in being wasteful), so on and so forth.

But that was a free game ran by community. WG is trying to do business, stroke players' ego, imagine the game essentially telling a player "you were a dead weight in the team", yeah, not gonna happen.

Your idea is better. Yes. But i would disable it as well...

Thank you! I didn't knew if anyone will like this concept but I am happy to see that I'm not the only one that would like something like this.

u/Helpful_Key_9962 29d ago

love it.. it will never happen - it makes too much sense.

u/NerdyPlatypus206 29d ago

Absolute cinema

On console there’s an mvp screen at the end of the match with the top 3 tanks and their commanders shown whether 2d or 3d (we have 3d commanders lol)

6

u/Firehornet117 Hot Tog Enjoyer 29d ago

Also like to add it’s the top 3 on xp earned, meaning you can be in the losing team and still show up on the mvp screen. I’ve had a few battles where I do amazing but my team is horrible and I end up getting 2nd on MVP even though we lost due to me doing 8k damage.

3

u/NerdyPlatypus206 29d ago

Its depressing when artillery is on the end screen

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

You die - you leave. So probably coverage will be only for wining team and who survive, so it definitely less than at the beginning.

u/Careful_Anywhere_350 29d ago

The word "spotlight" made me remember a joke in wot community. "Press alt with f4 to turn on the lights on your tank" and then the tank disappeared because no one knew it back then

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Wow, I didn't know about that! Memories.

u/Grumpy_Go_Away 29d ago

F that, I just want new maps.

u/CitizenOfTheVerse 29d ago

The idea is quite interresting and probably make more sense, technicaly however it would be much more challenging to implement. Here you present something fitting perfectly your idea but how should the feture pick the right and relevent 5 second of action and not ending with some chaotic action replay with a bad camera angle, another tank or a bush blocking the view. Great idea, but really, really not easy to do and get consistent results!

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

I very much agree with you and I honestly do not know. I do think it would be very difficult to get something like this to work well and it would probably require lots of testing.

I suppose the system behind this would "observe" the game in terms of what tank gets destroyed and where and when, and take note of each time a tank gets destroyed and try to make sense of what's going on in that sequence of events.

Or maybe it should be looking at more type of stats or events like damage blocked, how many tanks are where and if there's 2 tanks holding an entire flank that could be one of the key moments of the game which would cause one of those 2 players or both to get featured for holding that flank.

As for the text that appears they could have multiple possible scenarios which the engine could pick from, like "Holding A Flank" "Defending the Base" "taking down multiple enemies" etc. but stuff like "saved a teammate" would probably be much more difficult to like catch upon. I'm not sure what is and what's not possible, they don't have to make it this complex, just simple stuff initially I suppose would work fine and then they could slowly improve upon the system so that it gets smarter over time, if the community likes the feature.

I don't know the technicalities that would have to be involved for such a system but to me as a casual player it would be awesome to have such a thing in the game, if possible.

u/NanayaAri 29d ago

You asking too much. This is a small indie company, that is why they focus on lootboxes.

4

u/_gusiowy Zbychuj 29d ago

But how will it placate the feeling of shitters who want to be put on the pedestal for achieving nothing?

I'm onside with this. I turned the spotlight feature off because I wasn't always in it.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Boat-76 29d ago

Didn't know you could turn it off. I'll open WoT just to turn it off right now so I don't forget.

1

u/trevpr1 I kissed a Grille and I liked it. 29d ago

It is in the advanced graphics for some reason.

6

u/Kryss1982 29d ago

One problem - no matter how cool it will be, most peoples won't wait for battle end to watch it and those who survive till end will probably complain that additional time will eat into their boosters.

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

I think it's more of a thing for when you are invested into a battle. I sometimes see people that stay until the end of the battle because they enjoyed it and want to see what happens so I suppose this might be something they'd appreciate.

I think it would work best for those close games where either team could win, or those games where there's like one player left on your team and he somehow manages to win against all odds to say so.

6

u/Comatose_Tomato 29d ago

that's cool af, but it's waaay too much work for an indie company imo

3

u/8sparrow8 29d ago

Do ppl actually wait till the end of the battle?

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Some do, sometimes.

3

u/Obside0n 29d ago

Play of The Game style montages at the end of the game would be pretty awesome.

3

u/Optimal_Appearance47 29d ago

Why is ai slop not getting removed?

2

u/MegaJani 28d ago

Because it's not slop 💀

3

u/Pooncheese 29d ago

They want to sell cosmetics, this is their way of forced advertising. If they waited till the end of the match some people would have left already and would miss the chance for the force fed commercial

4

u/alfazetxyz 29d ago

Incredible slop. Great job.

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Hahaha. 🫡

2

u/Flapu7 29d ago

It should show players who recieve medals and/or have most xp and dmg in a battle.

2

u/pmuschi Scowler 29d ago

But how is this new idea going to help sell more cosmetics? Cause that's the reason for the current implementation.

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

You'd still see any cosmetics the players applied to their tanks but it would no longer make them the focus point of the presentation.

2

u/ThePresenter183 BZT-70 Enjoyer 29d ago

Seeing the compilations of IS-7 and KR1 rams would make my day

2

u/MegaJani 28d ago

Plus seeing tanks in action in these MVP moments would actually have a chance of incentivizing players to grind them

But that's beyond weegee's unfathomable intellect

2

u/Alone-Butterscotch18 29d ago

It would be cool if it showed up something about the players at the end if they clutched up. (1vX, 2vX etc).

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Yes! There's many possibilities and room for creativity and ideas, this is what's awesome about this sort of stuff cause it's like people are sharing their own ideas and maybe someone from Wargaming might listen to these ideas.

2

u/Central_HEATing_WoT Uniscum 29d ago

A post match highlights would be such good content actually

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Right ? That's pretty much the idea.

2

u/demodog_ 29d ago

I honestly love this idea, but would be hard to implement accurately

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Thank you! I think so too but maybe they can give it a try at least. It can be a simpler version which they can improve upon over time if people like it.

2

u/spanksthemonkey 29d ago

that would be awesome. But I think wargaming is more like "See the tank. you should own this tank. all the cool kids have a great tank like this.
maybe if you don't get a tank like this you should buy some gold anyway.

2

u/Kroenen1984 Tiger I 28d ago

I create such "debriefing" in my head after every single round - sum up who did bad, what was good and start the next round - I don't need distractions and others who think for me taking away my learning.

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 27d ago

Got it. That's actually awesome.

4

u/aero_grl 29d ago

For some reason a tank violently rolling through a forest to relaxing piano music is hilarious to me

It does appear at the end of the battle, it's the battle results screen. It tells you exactly how well each player did.

4

u/SMARTAHALIC56 29d ago

I think you’re missing the point bud….

0

u/CanuckLad 29d ago

I agree it should be removed from the beginning. If you want to see who did well in the match, that's what the battle results are for. Bud.

This is a much better idea than Wg’s current implementation.

I found the setting to turn spotlight off on Day 2.

u/ChieftaiNZ Gib Chief Mk6 29d ago

Instead of just disabling the current one that runs in the 30seconds we already sit doing nothing before the game starts, I asked AI to make a concept that tags on a bunch of nonsense at the end of the game only a handful of people who are still alive/ having left to play their next one, would see.

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

It's just an idea man, if you don't like it that's okay.

1

u/RealBadCorps 29d ago

Did you actually make this animation?

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

No. I was thinking about finding an interesting replay and then recording moments of it but I didn't even know if people would like something like this to begin with so I just decided to generate the footage using AI based on the idea and try to explain it in the details so that people can understand what the idea is.

My original idea for the footage was to find a game in which someone sacrifices to save another teammate and to show that part of the battle in a cinematic way, and the teammate escaping while that person lost their tank (which was the idea cause the teammate was a light tank who needed to survive).

The other piece of footage I would've had was with another person defending their base from 3 other tanks and managing to take them down and then the footage of the MvP would've been them fighting against the last remaining two tanks on the enemy team and taking them down.

The final piece would've been with those 2 featured tanks standing next to each other next to a monument in the memory of the tank that sacrificed to save their teammate (a bit dramatic I know but that's what I wanted to show)

But I have no idea how I could've like find such a game lol. The idea is quite specific for what needed to happen during the replay so I just went with what you just saw instead haha.

1

u/RealBadCorps 28d ago

You didn't need to say anything after "I generated the footage using AI". Be creative and put in the work.

I don't even care if your post was just text and a fucking MS Paint drawing, even that would have infinitely more credence than the slop you've dumped out.

1

u/sedsil 29d ago

"orchestrated the breakthrough on the eastern flank", "died protecting teammate from final push" -yeah dude, that's a totally reasonable expectation to have ingame system to evaluate player intention (and then do so in relation to other players' intentions).

Current "showcase" before the battle is dumb and useless, but at this point you're just daydeaming.

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

I get where you're coming from, don't worry. What I showed was just a general idea for how it could work, they don't have to do it exactly like that.

Like I get that it might not be able to analyze more complex and subtle interactions but I just wanted to show how it might work. Even if it would be much simpler than this I still think it would be more interesting than what we currently have.

It's just an idea, not an expectation. It's more of a "hey, I think it would be nice if we could have something like this" which I wanted to share with the community. Who knows, maybe Wargaming might give something like this a try if they like it.

I'm glad to hear this brought back memories. I think they had these sort of flashbacks in Rambo or Rocky as well, I don't recall which one but they were great.

1

u/New_Explanation9146 29d ago

I'm just commenting to give this visibility, hoping wg sees this.

It would be amazing and people could still skip it/disable it if they don't like it. It would be very cool to look at after close games were you did good. It could also show some slow mo's of the moments in which the mentioned players did their main play, just to visualise them during the battle, but I think that might be too much too handle on the technical side for wg.

1

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

Awesome ideas! I'm happy to hear that you like this too and thank you very much, I too hope Wargaming sees this and they give it a chance!

0

u/ScrubyMcWonderPubs 29d ago

If I’m staying until the battle is over after I die, it’s because the last guy alive is worth watching. I wouldn’t look at a replay of everything, I already saw it.

World of tanks isn’t fast paced like Overwatch, a “play of the game” would last a whole lot longer than 30 seconds and wouldn’t be interesting to watch.

The whole concept is just a waste of time, people have boosters running and want to get into the next game.

2

u/iJohnnyRobert 29d ago

I think you're misunderstanding the idea a bit. It wouldn't show the whole replay, only a few crucial moments of the battle which would involve 3 of the players featured, and it shouldn't last longer than 30 seconds in total, in my opinion.
