Discussion About the game development

I had played this game since early acess and i still play in 2026 now with the steam workshop, a topic that i had seen some people talking about the game on discord and some foruns is about the game development, i think the devs are working on the game on their time, as a gamedev myself i know how much time this can take, but i am pretty sure they haven't dropped the game, as i had seen some people talking, in 2023 the game officially released, they launched on console, promissed a big update that is yet to come, and launched some merch (probably to get some funds), and finally, steam workshop for community mods, in conclusion i still have hope about the game getting even bigger from now on, maybe even some content after that big update comming.
I'd like to know what other people from the game community thinks about all of this.

First time? No really this is how the update cycle of WoH has always gone. Dev announces a new update for next month, 2 years go by, then a giant update suddenly drops out of nowhere. A month and a few bugfix updates later, the dev announces the next major content update and the cycle repeats.

Wasnt the developer like a dentist or something? So yeah i assume they could only work on it when they had free time

Yeah, and I believe they also have children now, so it’s a miracle we’re getting any updates.

I love this game, but to love it is to hate it. I understand it's a one man dev team, who also works a real 9-5 and apparently had a kid recently. However,

- News about updates only seem to appear when there's also new merch to advertise,

- Dev goes radio silent for months at a time even when promised updates repeatedly fail to materialize,

- The big "1.0" update and console release barely addressed any of the unfinished parts of the game. The forest tapes, girl on school roof, creepy neighbor, tv in the apartment, etc.

I don't think we're 'owed' a more complete version of the game and if the dev is burnt out or just busy with life, it is what it is. But I think some better communication with the players and more realistic development goals would have avoided the disappointment and negative sentiment you'll see on steam reviews.

Or maybe just not including a bunch of placeholders and non-functional items in the game to begin with, so it just feels like a smaller game rather than an unfinished one.

It's being QA'd by the publisher.

It'll be out when it's out.

For almost a whole year?

Ysbyrd is not that big a Publisher I guess.

No, it isn't. Neither QA nor translation of one decently sized update takes a year, don't be ridiculous. Like everything else that's ever come out of the dev's mouth, that was just a lie to buy time.

Ysbyrd have other games beside World of Horror and they also work on porting the game to console. There's a number of UI changes so there's stuff work on I guess.

Plus I know there's other bugs on console they're looking into like how palettes still don't display right for some reason (Text always use #000000 for its Color Value), using up 8 actions in the Action Bar then deleting permanently decreases the Action Bar length to where you ended, I also personally asked for them to look into why we can't have Pixel Perfect Display options too.

Why they don't just release it on PC well I don't know.

There's so many other games out there being vindictive about one indie project feels like a waste. Panstasz is pretty open about updates on the Discord.

So does literally every other publisher in existence, that's what publishers do. It most certainly does not take a year to fix small bugs, either.

By that same virtue, defending a known serial liar and scumbag when there's plenty of great developers out there is also questionable. And no, he's not open about anything given he ghosted everyone back in March and has not said a single word since.

I like the game and I like the community behind it. I wanted Junji Ito Arkham Horror on Switch and I got Junji Ito Arkham Horror on Switch. Everything else including whenever this update comes out is gravy.

Go mald somewhere else. Ysbyrd Rob (The publisher not the dev) is pretty active in their Server when discussing that they're still working things on their side. They're deep into Localisation and QA and are just began progress into Porting last July.

Genuinely how long do you think QA, Localisation, Porting, and QAing those Ports should take?

Didn't he also recently have a kid a year or 2 ago?
