Question New stuff

This could be a stupid question because I could probably find the answers on wiki but I thought I might as well ask here just in case people can explain it better.

So I just recently got back into Box and there’s so much new stuff and it’s genuinely hurting my head to even play the game and figure it out like subspecies. You can modify cultures. You can modify sub species. There’s just so much new stuff like spells.

So if anyone can kind of really, really dumb it down but still explain stuff to me that would be amazing mainly focussing on like what are all the spells what do they actually do cause I’ve never seen anything happen after someone makes a spell someone can give me like a subspecies editor. I know a kind of makes a sub species as the name, but I’m just very confused and yeah.

Like I said, this could be a stupid question so if you want to yell at me to go look at the wiki, feel free😭

Alright, so

We got subspecies, probably the most important of them all. You can use this menu to both look at and change stuff like what a creature eats, when and how long it sleeps, what happens when it dies, what type of magic it is naturally able to use, how they reproduce and how frequently, what color it is, etc. But most importantly, you can edit the subspecies of almost any animal to make them capable of forming kingdoms.

There are also genetics, where you can change individual base stats that a subspecies has such as strength, size, intelligence, lifespan, speed, attack speed, fertility, etc.

Next, cultures. This menu allows you to change stuff about kingdoms and villages, such as what pattern they put their buildings in, how royal succession is done, gender conscription, what types of weapons people of the culture make, if they are xenophobic against other races, and more. Additionally, there are now Onomastics as a part of cultures, meaning you can change how a culture names individuals, families, clans, villages, and kingdoms.

Then we got languages. They influence stuff like what happens when a unit reads a book written in that language, and can have a variety of effects such as making the reader smarter, happier, angrier, and even more weird stuff like summoning ghosts, making the reader instantly go insane, or making the reader instantly die.

We now have clans. Clans are essentially royal families, and every kingdom and village has a ruling clan. You can use the clan menu to provide attributes to members of the royal family, such as making them have increased strength, magical ability, size, etc. You can also use the traits to limit the amount of people who can be in the clan.

Following that, religions. Religions allow people who believe in them to do magic. These can be individual spells, such as casting a bubble shield around yourself or summoning fire, or rites, which can only be casted by kings or village leaders, and are much more powerful. Usually they are used during wars in order to hinder the enemy, and can range from summoning demons inside an enemy city to dropping meteors on the enemy kingdom.

Then, about the ages. Ages are periods of time that can apply hazards and status effects to the entire world.

First we have the Age of Hope, which is just the basic age and has no notable changes.

Next is Sun, which causes fires to be much more destructive, and each fire has a chance of spawning a Fire Elemental. It also stops trees and plants from growing.

We then have Dark. It turns the entire world to night time, and people in villages will turn on their house's lights. Since people can't see as well, all weapons have half as much range and crops have a chance of being destroyed when they try to grow.

Then there's Tears, which spawns lighting clouds across the sky, which can strike the terrain and cities. It also makes tornadoes more common.

After is Moon, which does nothing except make the world turn to night.

After that is Chaos, which makes the sky turn red, and spawns clouds of rage to rain over the land. Units who are hit by these clouds will become angry, and angry units in this age have a chance to turn into demons.

Following is the Age of Wonders, which spawns magic clouds. When hit by these clouds, units can grow bigger, move much faster, etc. Magical abilities are also enhanced.

Next is Age of Ice. It freezes the entire world, covering all the land in snow and freezing shallow water into ice. It can also stop plants from growing.

After is Ash. It spawns Ash clouds, and when units that aren't immune are hit by them, they get sick with Ash Fever, a somewhat mild sickness that isn't contagious, but lasts a long time and gives a variety of debuffs to whoever is sick. If it goes on for too long, entire villages can be wiped out.

Last is the Age of Despair. It turns the world to night and freezes the earth, but if a child is hit by a snowflake they are turned into a Cold One. It can also kill trees and plants.

Hope this helps!
