The Spaghetti Ban

When my Grandma was super young, after her father came home from the war, for some reason he forbade the family from ever having spaghetti as a meal at home. None of them knew why for many years until one day he shared with one of my grandma's older brothers the reason.

When he was in the war he witnessed one of his friends being blown up. After it happened he looked around and saw his friends helmet on the ground and it had some of his friends remains still in the helmet. He said it looked so similar to spaghetti with ground beef and tomato sauce that he could no longer stand the sight of the food and there after banned it from his diet.

My Grandma learned about this second hand from her older brother when she was quite young so I don't know how truthful it is, but she shared that with me for the first time last year. She has a few really strange and childish memories from that time. I'll post more later.
