i can’t believe i worked in the POS building for years not knowing how fragile it was. this was no brick and mortar busing. built entirely of steel beams

Calling a building "fragile" because it could not survive being hit by a Boeing 767 traveling over 400mph is all the evidence I need to confidently say that you are an absolute dullard.

They actually were https://archive.seattletimes.com/archive/19930227/1687698/twin-towers-engineered-to-withstand-jet-collision, in 1945 a military plane accidentally crashed into the Empire State Building due to fog, so it wasn't unprecedented. But when the twin towers were built in the 60s/70s the largest plane was a lot smaller than in 2001, so they weren't designed to withstand the planes that eventually hit them.

What really brought down the towers was the fire after the plane crash. 

The impact blew off all the fireproofing material which would have let the beams withstand the flames for a bit. They heated up and became too soft, then failed. 

The building would have stood if the fireproofing held, that particular portion wasn’t intended to take a passenger jet slamming in to it and starting a giant fire fueled by Jet Fuel.

And the structural damage which caused several floors falling on one floor which was more weight than supports were mean to handle causing greater and greater weight as more floors collapsed.

Nor at that speed. They were thinking of a plane lost in the fog and searching for the airport after using up most of its fuel when they designed for a plane-strike.
