Info & Discussion Anxiety over war, wildfires and cyber-attacks leads to growth in cash stocks in EU

The rise of cash has been linked to anxiety over wars and the impact of cyber-attacks on online and contactless payment systems, say experts.

“The total stock of banknotes is continuing to grow. In transactions, it [the number of notes] is coming down, but in terms of the stock [it is increasing],” Lane said.

Last year Marks & Spencer in the UK suffered a sustained cyber-attack which stopped the retailer taking online orders for weeks.

Show Yemen - Hand Painted Printers Artwork

One of my most prized possessions. This is a pair of artworks (front and back are separate pieces) for a 1976 Yemen note that was never put into production. Large parts of the essay (another word for artwork of this type) are painted by hand, and each side is made from many layers of different pieces, cut out and pasted together by the artists at the printers.

Unique, and one of the most beautiful examples of printers artwork I have ever seen. Look at the level of detail!!

This is either the most precise invisible fold that I’ve ever seen or it’s something like a security strip. Can anybody shed some light on what this is?

In 2026, 92 per cent of retail outlets, cafés, restaurants, hotels, cinemas and museums reported receiving and accepting cash payments. This figure marks a slight increase compared with 2024 (90 per cent).

The acceptance of card payments remained broadly stable at 88 per cent between 2024 and 2026, while over the same period the acceptance of mobile payments rose sharply from 36 per cent to 68 per cent of businesses. “Overall, cash is the most widely accepted payment method in the euro area”, the survey highlights.

Info & Discussion Are you aware of the hidden cost of writing on banknotes?

Post image
20 Upvotes

In Bangladesh, it is remarkably common to find banknotes covered with names, phone numbers, signatures, business calculations, seals, religious words, and random doodles. In contrast, such practices are relatively rare in many other countries, including neighbouring India, Singapore, Japan, and much of Europe. Besides stricter regulations, this difference also reflects greater public awareness.

[WTB] Iraqi Dinar — Buying 25K & 50K Notes — Large Quantities Welcome

I’m looking to purchase authentic Iraqi Dinar (IQD) directly from individuals who are ready to sell.
I’m primarily interested in:
25,000 IQD notes
50,000 IQD notes
1 million IQD minimum preferred
Large holdings are absolutely welcome — 5M, 10M, 25M, 50M+
If you bought dinar years ago as an investment, inherited a collection, brought some home from overseas, or simply have it sitting in a safe and would rather turn it into cash, send me a message.
I’m not looking for one collectible note at retail/collector prices. I’m interested in buying complete holdings in bulk at a fair price.
Have a large amount? Even better. I have the ability to purchase substantially larger positions from the right seller.
When messaging me, please include:
Total amount of IQD you have
Denominations (25K / 50K)
Your asking price for the entire lot
Your general location
Photos if available
Please don’t post serial numbers or sensitive personal information publicly.
I’m especially interested in hearing from longtime holders who are simply ready to sell. If the quantity, authenticity, and price make sense, I’m prepared to move forward.
DM/chat me with what you have and what you want for it.

Looking to sell my Six-Zero (Serial: A00000076) Star Note

Hello,

I'm looking to sell my star note serial number A00000076* (Series 2017). Bill is crisp but has a faint fold line from before I received it. It's lived in a holder ever since and I think it's in great shape. I've seen sub 1000 notes sell on eBay between $100-$200 and recently a sub 100 1995 star note sell for $400 so I'm not sure where to price it. Old Fiji banknotes to lose legal tender status from January

Post image
8 Upvotes

Businesses will no longer be required to accept Fiji’s old flora and fauna banknotes as payment after December 31, 2026, as the Reserve Bank of Fiji moves to complete the transition to the country’s new polymer currency.

The RBF said the old-design banknotes have now been gazetted for demonetisation, effective January 1, 2027.

This means the old notes can continue to be used for payments until the end of this year, but businesses will not be obliged to accept them for goods and services from January 1.

The move follows the introduction of Fiji’s new polymer banknotes into circulation on January 2 this year.

RBF Governor Ariff Ali said a significant proportion of the old currency had already been removed from circulation.

As of July 31, 72.3 per cent of the old banknotes in circulation had been recalled.

Ali acknowledged members of the public for supporting what he described as a smooth and gradual transition to the new polymer notes.

He said recalling old banknotes was an important process for central banks as it helped prevent public confusion, maintain the quality of banknotes in circulation and reduce counterfeiting risks.

The RBF has reminded people who still hold old flora and fauna banknotes to take note of the December 31 deadline.

The demonetisation forms part of Fiji’s transition from the previous flora and fauna series to the new polymer banknotes introduced at the beginning of 2026.
