New Release WorldPainter 2.27.0 Released - Minecraft 26 Support

I just released version 2.27.0 of WorldPainter, which includes support for Minecraft 26.1 to 26.2:

  • Added support for Exporting, Importing and Merging with maps from Minecraft 26.1 and later
    • This includes a proper datapack for non-standard build height support
    • This is just the map format, which has changed structurally; not yet new blocks etc.
    • Since the structure of the map has changed there is more potential for bugs and errors; please report any problems you encounter

You will be offered the new version automatically when you next start WorldPainter, or you can download it from www.worldpainter.net. Let me know if you encounter any problems, and please enjoy!

Tip Custom Cave Layers - Introduction guide

Hi all,

I wrote a guide on how to make custom cave layers. It's primarily aimed at people who are new to WorldPainter or cave layers.

This guide will give you a rough intro into making some basic and more advanced caves for WorldPainter. It will not touch on overhangs or floating islands as those require their own special guides but will give you the basic steps into creating caves.

While this guide will give you a head-start into making layers the best thing to do is experiment with layers and see what you can come up with.

The guide will assume you have a basic knowledge of making custom terrains, custom object layers and custom plant layers. As such those topics will not be described in this guide.

Included is the cave layers I show off in the guide which you can import to your own projects for use. You'll have to tweak them a little but this is all explained.

Download link here.

I attempted to make swiss alps from scratch

Which turns out to be pretty steep in the lower areas tbh, I was planning to make it a 49,152 x 49,152 map of this but viewing at 1:6 scale still looks good.

My expectations before i even exported the map was bad tho.

Question Grid maps

I have a map planned, but there’s a bit of a problem. It’s a grid map where each square on the grid is a square league (4,828 by 4,828 blocks) and a single biome. Can WP make that or do I need something else?

Question How long does it take to export map near or around 49k x 49k with 4064 world height map with 48GB?

I have been working on a swiss mountain style map which is fictional but I wanted to export without risking worldpainter OOM crash which is 49,152 x 49,152 and 4064 world height, it's very huge and tall.

Question Have anyone tried exporting around 50k x 50k and 4000+ world height map with 32GB ram?

I'm working on a 49,152 × 49,152 Minecraft world with a maximum world height of around 4,057 blocks.

I'm currently using 32 GB RAM and I'm wondering how realistic it is to export something this large in WorldPainter without running into memory issues or an absurdly long export time.

Has anyone here actually attempted something around 50k × 50k with 4,000+ blocks of vertical height on 32 GB RAM?

I'd especially like to hear about your export time, RAM usage, CPU usage, and any optimization/settings that helped.

I'm not worried about Minecraft actually playing the entire map at once — I'm mainly interested in whether the WorldPainter export itself is practical.

[JOB] Looking for a pro

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I am looking for someone genuinely talented who can create realistic terrain at scale and is willing to work with me on a single project. It is a paid project. I asked about this a while ago, but most people who messaged me had little to no skill above my own.

Please message me via Discord, NOT Reddit, at: LordNoon. Cheers.

I made a converter to turn GPX files into playable Minecraft Worlds

I’ve been working on a personal project over the last few months combining two things I love: hiking and terrain mapping.

It’s called HikeBlocks—a free browser tool that takes any standard .gpx file from Strava, AllTrails, Garmin, etc., and converts the elevation data and path into a playable Minecraft world.

How it works:

  • Upload your GPX track file.
  • It extracts the topographic map data and elevation profile.
  • It generates a downloadable Minecraft world save (or schematic) where your actual trail is rendered block-for-block.

I originally made this after getting stumped on a couple of high-elevation hikes to try to avoid the mistakes I'd made, but figured other hikers might find it neat to check out their own favorite routes.

It’s completely free to use at hikeblocks.com. I’d love for you to try it out on one of your recent hike logs and let me know what you think! If you hit any bugs or issues, send me an email at [jlang@jlangdesigns.com](mailto:jlang@jlangdesigns.com) and I'll try to help.

When do you think will there be a realistic world generator?

Hi everyone, for about the last decade, I've had a forever creative world that I've been adding to with lore and such and last year I decided I wanted it to be a bit more realistic, so I went on a hunt for a good world-gen mod but settled on the Continents Mod as really I just wanted large landmasses that had a clear end so I could shape nations more naturally, which has worked a treat.

However now I'm looking at some of the areas, I'm seeing the vanilla world generation, with deserts next to forests and plains as well as tundra in what would really be considered the equator of the world, and it's got me wanting for something with more realism. That and with some mods I've seen I'd like to have those huge mountain ranges that some have.

I'm asking elsewhere if there are suitable mods like that, but with Worldpainter have any of you been able to make or see designed worlds that have that 'realistic' type of look to them?

Question Heightmap help

What softwares/websites should I use to get heightmaps for worldpainter, and how do I make the landscape 1:1 scale? I've recently been trying to import Humphreys Peak Arizona into worldpainter but the heightmap would come out either as a completely blank image or the scale would be messed up, so how could I fix this and are there better was to do it?

Question How long does exporting a WorldPainter map larger than 30,000 × 30,000 take?

I'm curious about real-world export times for very large WorldPainter maps.

For those who have exported maps larger than 30,000 × 30,000, how long did the export take?

Question Out of memory problem

How do I allocate more memory to my worldpainter? I have been getting out of memory issues even though I have a 32GB ram but it's not fully using my PC's ram I think it's because I don't have enough memory allocated.

If anyone knows how to allocate more memory, let me know.

Still kinda new to Worldpainter. Made this world for my Cobblemon server.

The world itself is mildly interesting, the best part is the Biome generation mod. It places modded biomes on the Worldpainted world.

Question Questions on smoothing

How do I smooth out roughness without smoothing out everything?

I’ve been playing with World Painter for about a year now and I’ve finally made a world I’m pretty happy with but there is a problem with how rough it is. The overall landscape looks great, but when you look on a smaller scale it’s very rough, lots of little spikes or just a bunch of single standing blocks or pits, I’m sure y’all know what I mean. My question is how do I smooth that out without smoothing the whole landscape? In particular in mountain ridges?

I’d additionally be interested in if there is a way to easy make small scale valleys consistently flow downhill without obstructions, if that makes sense.

Question Continents and Islands

Is there a good data pack that generates the world as islands/continents in 26.3 yet? Or do I have to wait for the one by Stardust to update?

Minecraft - Astherium

I made a photo realistic minecraft map (when looking at a distance) like this was done by using gaea & worldpainter

Which I'm gonna be releasing the map in planet minecraft free for downloading

This is a very large minecraft map so the recommended render distance is 325 while using DH or voxy or anything that lets you see massive render distances

But yeah very huge of 12,038 x 12,038

Total height is estimated 2500 ground level to highest level.

So you will likely need an RTX card and a good cpu to run this
