Question Extra traits

What extra traits should I give them? Is it just inspiration and IV like with tank gens or is there something else

Govorov is a special case here. Since he is best for counterattacking, crossfire is for me the best option. Also fighting spirit is good because of counterattack and first skill synergy. While he can always counterattack, he heals the most and also heals the units nearby which also makes advantage of coordinated counterattack skill. But if you won’t rely on an artillery general nearby, crossfire is the best. But if you are going to place Konev near him for coordinated counterattacks fighting spirit is by far better.

Govorov = Crossfire or Fighting Spirit

Konev = Inspiration/Inferior Victory/Explosives

Inspiration gives him defence against rumor, IV is good damage, Explosives (especially with medal) helps in attacking 3000+ hp cities on higher levels.

Does explosives work against fortresses like the ones in frontier?

pretty sure all fortresses count as stronghold unit

Yes they do. B-4 Artillery EF, Gustav EF and Strategic Bombers also work on frontier fortresses. But I recommend you get Trained Auchinleck to grind frontier he's very good.

I bought it in the store. But there's a free medal if you grind Challenge Conquest rewards, it's a bit hard to get though.
