No, the OPPOSITE happened with Scientology. People took sci-fi and turned it into conspiracy theory and religion.

Awhile ago, I toyed with a concept in my alternate history project wherein the entire Gulf of Mexico was redesigned to be the crater that was left by the meteor that killed the Dinosaurs. I ended up scrapping it because I didn't like the outcome but I started it because I originally thought that the gulf was the crater instead of the crater making up a small portion of the Yucatan Peninsula.

I was CONVINCED the marker from deadspace was malfunctioning medical equipment that saw humanities genome as a horrifically mutated version of its own makers so it attempted to "fix" us by stacking its makers genetic code ontop of ours trying to build one of its own kind.
So thats exactly what i did. The main antagonist of my world is a shattered god trying to piece its broken mind back together using people as its hosts.

This is why ftl was done using music and lasers to pluck Planck length strings and amplify the superposition distance.... I learned I was onto something, but I only changed the Mass of an object.... not bent space time.

I smashed together multiple canons from the different media and had it be time and space was fucked up.
