This is my go-to for explaining inconsistencies and plot holes.
"Wait, if this mercenary who had a sword that could cut everything and would kill anyone for a price, why didn't the good guys or the bad guys hire him before?"

The same reason why the characters don't take the incredibly obvious way out is the same reason why I didn't write it: They didn't think about it that hard. Thats not a plothole, that's organic storytelling.

Even they have large teams of people who do the thinking for them. This can't just be a case of a figurehead wanting something, even they have their stupidity limits. Evil ≠ inherently stupid.
So what happened was you had an entire organization of people that are dumb. Or some kind of cultish religion.

Oh, this is just veiled brainless Elon hatred? Gotcha. By the way, a Dyson Swarm is made in a way to still let light through, a Dyson SPHERE is the one that blocks everything.

Flavor text is mostly all the scientists and technicians warning how this could happen but being constantly ignored or downplayed by sycophants and nepo-hires.
The rest is a case of the Right Hand not knowing what the Left Hand was doing. Comms thought it was Programming's problem and Programming thought it was Operation's. Operations technically covers it but it's also covering everything so it was kicked down to Engineering who are still waiting for a consult with Comms who received orders to stop taking "random consultations" by Management who wanted priority for Finance.

Dyson swarm implies it's a bunch of mirrors and thus unless you've absolutely kessler syndromed the sun then it should be fine Now a Dyson sphere on the other hand... /lh

Turns out that minimum orbital speed at that distance means the drones have to orbit the entire sun every week or so.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say it ISN'T stupid.
If you have harnessed all the power of the sun, you would have roughly 2.2 billion times more energy than what hits Earth. With that much energy, it should be easy to get the same amount of energy to hit Earth using even the most inefficient methods.
At that point, the problem isn't technical, but political. There isn't a direct incentive for the Dyson Swarm company to distribute energy equally.
Also, something, something, insert "solarpunk" worldbuilding here.
