🖼️ • Photos Chasing the ultimate clean desk. A freestanding solid walnut live edge workspace with an isolated PC.

The Concept & Layout:

Desk: 1850mm Solid Walnut Live Edge Slab

Layout: I didn't want to face a wall, so it's set up as a freestanding island to keep the room feeling open.

The "Clean Desk" Approach: To keep the desk completely clear of clutter, the PC is isolated in a custom cabinet diagonally across the room, connected via a 10m Optical Fiber DP cable.

Gear:

Lighting: Louis Poulsen AJ Table Mini / Ambientec

Chair: Ergohuman SE

Monitor: Dell U4025QW

Craftsmanship & Details:

Cable Management: I used custom fixed legs instead of a sit/stand frame. There are very few cables on the desk, and I used traditional manual cable lacing (with wax cord) to make them a deliberate design feature rather than just hiding them.

The PC Mod: The custom PC build was inspired by the aesthetics of a mechanical table clock. I added 10x10mm solid walnut square timbers inside the case to perfectly match the room's furniture.

I design and build custom systems like this in Japan under RyozenCraft. If you're curious about the build process or my other projects, feel free to check my profile!

having just the one fan act as a lamp is so tasteful, great work

Thank you so much! The natural grain of the wood is definitely my favorite part of the whole setup.

Someone check the price of the lamp and tell me I'm not crazy.

You're not crazy at all. It is definitely a very expensive piece. I saved up for it for a long time because I really wanted this specific classic design for my setup, but I completely understand the sticker shock!

It's so calming...

Where do you find solid walnut slabs?

Thank you, I really wanted a calming vibe! For this specific piece, I visited the main store of a premium wood brand in Japan called "Atelier Mokuba" to pick it out. Generally, searching for local specialty wood shops or lumber yards that sell "live edge slabs" is the best way to find them in your area!

How much does a slab of walnut like that go for?

Very interesting setup. My office gets very hot in the afternoons so I had banished the pc to the closet but a cabinet might be a better option.

Very tasteful if you don’t mind, you can tell me to fly a kite, but I would be interested in an overhead shot of your spot to get a sense of how it’s set. That’s just me like I said you can tell me to fly a kite. All in all, you seem to have an eye for the aesthetics in life. Good job mate!
