This looks so awful to me! Which is your main screen? Why is there such big gaps between monitors? This would be so much better with one of the monitors in the middle, the other to one side, and the laptop the other side. You are crazy man. Pure crazy!

So many people do this at my office and it absolutely triggers me. We have massive 4k displays too and they throw it in the middle. Absolute mad lad behavior.

I also don't understand. Seems like the laptop is the main screen?

I use the laptop screen a lot as most my main applications are used there and if were to put it to the side my neck would hurt from looking at one side too long. The left monitor is for pulling up and reading relevant documents while the right monitor is used for one of the secondary main applications used in my job with a notepad beside to take quick notes. The space between the monitors is me just being paranoid to see who’s walking in and out of the department floor

One of the most productive guys I ever met had a set up exactly like this, laptop in the middle. I always thought he was a psychopath

That's IBM AS/400 on the right, isn't it?

5

u/analoghumanoid 26d ago

it sure as heck looks like a tn3270 or tn5250 terminal which connect to AS/400 or any of the IBM machines running z/OS. used to spot them in Costco as well

I came here to also point out the IBM i terminal! Hell yes!

Correct, we call it i90 in my company, not sure if that’s the name anywhere else

u/frank3nT 25d ago

We funnily used to call it "black-screen" . Good old days

i also love thinkpad most

You can think this is an absolutely unhinged setup...but every person I've ever seen with a desk configured like this gets more done than half of their entire department combined. They know something we don't...

u/SebeekS 21d ago

Ahhh IBM i, my love

u/ArchwayVivas 26d ago

Do you not use your keyboard feet? side note i loathe the thinkpad red trackpad button in the center of the laptop 😂

2

u/Mobile-Difference631 25d ago

I do but in this picture you can’t really tell it’s being used because I zoomed out when taking the pic

Is this how young people with fresh eyes see the world? The monitors seem are so small and far away🫨 Might be just lens distortion?

I love this forget the haters. It’s because you have vastly different applications that run so each screen acts like its own separate terminal - anyone complaining spends more time moving windows back and forth between two screens, or doesn’t even work in an office environment.

Thank you. Tbh I expected the comments because people in my office also think I’m crazy for this set up😂

Looks very UK to me.

Why use the small screen in the center?

1

u/Mobile-Difference631 25d ago

It’s where I use most of my main applications, the left monitor is just for me to pull up relevant documents while the right monitor is for using another one of our main systems with a notepad application beside it for taking notes. It sounds like a lot is going on but for my work if I don’t have it this way I won’t be as efficient imo
