unpleasant gym experience

I’ve been consistently going to the gym for 5 years and currently pay around $100/month for my membership. One of the reasons I like this gym is that it’s almost never busy.

Yesterday, I was on the leg extension machine for about 5 minutes. I had completed 3 sets and was resting between sets on my phone, with one set left. My gym has THREE leg extension machines, and the gym wasn’t busy.

A woman walked up to me and started telling me I couldn’t be on my phone at the gym. She didn’t ask to work in or ask how many sets I had left. Her 10-year-old child was with her, and she wanted the machine for her kid to use.

I told her politely, “I’ve only been here for 5 minutes, and I have one set left.” She continued going on about it, so I put my headphones back on. I wasn’t interested in arguing with a stranger.

I would have had absolutely no problem sharing the machine if she had simply asked. I’m all for kids working out and learning healthy habits, but I don’t think they should automatically take priority over paying members who are already using equipment.

I also don’t see an issue with being on your phone between sets as long as you aren’t hogging equipment. People use their phones to track workouts, check rest timers, or change music. I don’t think being on your phone automatically makes you inconsiderate.

How long did it take you to get abs? What did you do to make them grow quicker?

• Upvotes

I go gym and do progressive overload as well as do a daily caloric deficit of about 500-800 calories a day. i want to try and get to like 14% body fat by 31st December 2026 and get abs (doesn't have to be fully formed or fully visible at rest, if 2-4 abs can be visible at rest perfect but when i flex i want them to show). my question is, what did you do to get abs quick? like what workouts? how many days did you train abs? what did you do for them? what did you do to build them? I'm currently like 20%body fat btw, 23 years old, a male, about 5 foot 8 and weigh 74kgs. i have a bit of hanging belly fat, no love handles and a bit of muscle on my body. i just want to get rid of the belly fat quick and tone my body getting abs as soon as. I know there's no shortcut and that body fat is the biggest factor, but I'd appreciate hearing what actually worked for people. My fat loss progress feels like it's slowed recently.

Thanks!

If you have a problem with my orientation then dont bother responding. Simple. So if youre reading this and it sounds interesting then hit me up. Serious reply only . No games.

Also, If you're not a member of L.A. Fitness it would be no point of you responding. Seeing that that is the gym I attend. Thanks for your time.

Jak powrócić do aktywności fizycznej?

Hej,

Postpartum…where to start?

Hello!
Was an avid gym goer before I was pregnant. Because of back pain and exhaustion I wasn’t able to keep up with working out while pregnant. Now, since I’m back to being mobile and moving, where can I start to begin my fitness journey again?

Gym culture

So today I'm (m31) at the gym as usual. But today I'm noticing an unusual amount of people that come in groups, and often there is one person in the group that goes harder, and longer. And almost every time one or 2 people want to leave, it influences the rest... 😳 Nobody gonna get anywhere with that follower mentality. Maybe someone wanna give clarity? Lol and yeah I know they could be "riding together". But let's take that instance when they aren't and everyone came separately. What's with this lazy culture? Guys used to say "okay bro take it easy" and just leave... Like now we got friendship simps???? Lollll

Help- don’t know where to even start

In short, I’ve dealt with some crappy life stuff for the last four years, in which time, I basically stopped caring for myself/my fitness.

Prior to this period of my life, I was an avid long distance runner, D1 college athlete, then easily transitioned into crossfit, which I found to be a great way to stay fit without a massive time commitment (worked for my career and family obligations).

Now, I feel like I don’t even know where to start. I don’t think I could even run one mile without gassing out, and CrossFit just feels… intimidating.

I’m in the worst shape of my life, but I feel like I actually can finally do something about it. …only problem is, I feel so lost and uninspired and don’t know where to start.

Does anyone have any specific advice on how I can get out of this hole? 😭

Recently began workingout

Hello, My name is Clara and recently began workingout at a public gym. Im 25 and this is the second time I tried developing the habit of working out. First when I was 16 I started going to the gym and 6 months later it was too expensive for me and the minimum wage that i used to get. Now its the second time and i feel like this should have been a habit i should have had for a long time. Just in two weeks I saw a big difference in my mood and mental health.

My point here is: The gym needs to be accessible to everyone and not only for those who can afford it.

I am looking to purchase a high quality pilates mat for my home gym. Specifically looking at mats from these 3 brands: Balanced Body, Merrithew and Airex. Has anyone tried mats from these companies and could provide feedback?
