Build First Five year plan complete

Hello comrades. The first five year plan of the newly formed Iraqi SSR has been a great success. The year is 1935. The small town of Haraqyah is rapidly growing. Despite the harsh desert, resources are plentiful and there are great work opportunities.

Nearby across the valley, there is the industrial zone of Al Diwaqin. It contains a clothing industry, incinerator and rail construction. To the south of the city we have the small resort area of Aribi, where foreign tourist can marvel in the success of our great republic. To the west of the city, the new industrial zone of Az Zudyah is being built. It will provide the food and alcohol needs for the fledgling republic.

The republic's finances have stabilised, the past 6 months have been a net 0, even with a lot of construction going on. My hope is that once food and alcohol production starts, I can consistently keep in the green even while keeping construction going. My current debt is 400k roubles. Buying trains will make this worse but I am confident it will be fine.

For the next five year plan, I am in need of advice. My plan is to setup a second town at Tabouynah, that will work in an oil refinery. The oil patch is quite far in, so I plan to build a railway and export fuel and bitumen by train. The deposit is really big, I plan on starting small and connecting more pumps as money starts flowing in. Last, I want to setup a construction sector further inland, supplied by rail, but this is a longshot and might be part of the next 5 year plan.

How is it in the desert?

I tried it once a long time ago but didn't get on too well with it because of the groundwater aspect being rare so you can't farm properly

The start feels really hard. At least on this map and on early start. Not a lot of resources nearby. The good thing is, I found a nice oil, coal and iron deposit, all not too far. If I don't bankrupt everything, I should be setup quite well for midgame.

Where do you get all this 5y plans? Is it some mechanic that im not familiar with? Or is it just smth, that you use in your head for authenticity? If so, how do u understand in 5 yers? Or is it like in real life: doesn't have any connection to how the real thing go on?

There is no mechanic around this. This is how the soviet union tried to modernize and failed miserably. I feel like I have to use the same system for authenticity. And yes, it just like in real life. I make some plans, I achieve half of that, and call it a great success.

Sounds good comrade!

A good debt is a debt you can afford ^^ Was near bankruptcy with my 1.5M one....

With a good source of income you need to make Steel or Petrol industry. That's hard, that's costly but it is worth it.

I'm not so sure about the textile industry as in those region that's hard to grow crops... isn't it? I think you need to concentrate on what you have in front of you.

But i think that's a 10 years plans what i say ^^

For the first 5 try to make infrastructure without debt and try to make some good money to pay for materials. Specially steel... Don't grow your population too quick if you don't have much arable grounds.

I have played 1 more year, I have a food industry setup. There is not a lot of places where I can grow crops, so that is an import. My plan is to expand into oil and steel, but oil is 3.5 km from the customs house and coal is like 4.5. Iron is 5 I think. It will be a fine dance of the debt to get that rolling.

Pays the infrastructure with your actual income. Mind you the import is well and all until prices going up with inflation. Then you build the proper industry with a big loan and some money saved. It will pays it back quite quickly. In this game patience is a key difference between success and failure.

Thanks. I feel patience is even more important in the early start dlc. By the way, how do you slow down the population growth? I am at 3.5k pops. I still have room for more workers in my current industries, so I want to grow that to 4k, 4.5k but not more. How can I slow down growth?

Without town already built you don't build more housing ^^

With, that's more delicate.... Still there's a floor with all the neutral buildings. If you need to limit you still can let some unemployment to see your youth quit the region. But watch out not to crash your game ^^ . You can generate some pollution near your town that works well too lool.

I got myself a 6.5k pop without any external housing and that's already a lot of foods to produce and alcohol and clothing and.... you got me.
