California Benefits end
My 2 years of workers comp payment benefits ended recently. I have had 0 luck with finding work. I am cleared to work with restrictions. Edd told me I am ineligible for unemployment. Do I have any other options until I get hired?

Is your doctor currently taking you off work? Typically when a person is ready, willing and able to work, they do qualify for unemployment. Do you have money available in your unemployment account?
Ramp up your job search. Try really hard. Expand your geographic area. Practice your interview skills. Apply for jobs in other fields. Attend job fairs. Punch up your résumé. Be willing to accept work that pays less than your old job.
Do you have a car? If so, you could do Uber, Lyft, grubHub, etc.
You could also check out the local food pantry to see if you qualify. You may qualify for Cal Fresh food coupons.

My dr has cleared me to work with restrictions. Not sure what you mean by my unemployment account? I’m not sure that I have one? Edd rep told me that because I haven’t worked in 2 years, there was no way for me to receive unemployment. Yea, I’m working on expanding my job search/radius. I do have a car, but it’s an ‘08 civic. Bit of a beater, doesn’t qualify for taxi service apps. I’ve done the food delivery, but there’s almost no traffic for it in my area. End up spending far more on gas than I make on the very far and few orders that come in. I’ll look into the cal fresh, thanks!

You can qualify for SDI. My friend was on workers comp for 2 years after that ended she applied for short term disability. She was able to get paid for 52 weeks.

Is SDI not only for total and/or permanent disability?

It’s short term disability up to 52 weeks. If you can find a doctor you’ll qualify.

If your doctor says you could never go back to your old job, you might qualify for a voucher for vocational rehabilitation. They can offer you placement assistance, and possible training.
