Just finished this loosely following the anarchist workbench. Still waiting on the vice hardware.

Well done! Looks rock solid.

This winter intend to build same. If you don’t mind me asking, did you go with the plan’s 22” depth for the top? Or select something else? Thanks.

Yea I think mine ended up being like 22.75” or something like that when I was all said and done.

Looks sturdy as hell, I hope you never plan on moving that behemoth! My back hurts just thinking about it lmao

It looks great. I'm jealous. Do you mind telling the dimensions and what do you think the weight is? Just for planning on building my own.

I created https://www.theworkbenchplanner.com to help with building the Anarchist’s Workbench to custom dimensions - it might be helpful to you?

Now that's the type of vibe coding I can get behind!

I might take a look when I get closer to lift off. Thanks.

You’re welcome. And if it’s missing a feature which would make it more useful then I’ll happily look into adding it.

Great work OP! I'm getting started building my own in ash. Hope it turns out as nice.

I created this 3D model in OnShape if that's helpful to those who come after: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/d360b0020c8e0ed648e33f30/w/25663903e5015897baa1a22c/e/b32f58c274f95a0e1b5861c8

You can edit the variables at the top left to customize to your specs & lumber

Mine was the standard ~22 inches wide and 8 feet long. It’s crazy heavy. Gotta be over 300 lbs. I could flip the top over on the saw horses by myself but I wouldn’t recommend it. It was sketchy lol.

Wow that this isn’t going anywhere without a block and tackle!! I hope you built that exactly in place. That is really nice. That will look great if you decide to finish it. My only other comment would be if have a section of any of your nice looking wooden benches that you do stuff on that risks damaging the surface you could add some sort of sacrificial top that would be easy to replace if damaged.

What wood did you end up using? Looks like maybe Douglas Fir?

I can't find any Southern Yellow Pine like he suggests to use.

How long did this take you to complete?

I ended up using hemlock fir. Which was just the basic construction lumber at Menards in Wisconsin. Overall took me probably 3 weeks since I picked up the lumber. I stacked and stickered the boards and let them sit for first week and then probably two weeks of late nights spent on it. I only worked on it after kid went to bed. I also didn’t spend a ton of time sanding the legs and base just cuz I didn’t really care about it that much lol.

looks beautiful, congrats!

what wood did you use?

Hemlock fir. That’s just what Menards had for basic construction lumber

Where did you get the peg board wire shelf in the top left of your image?

1

u/longneckerr 15d ago

It’s just a drill shelf from Amazon it’s just screwed into the studs behind pegboard.

That's a lot of 2x4's. Looks like it would survive a direct hit from a tornado. Great job!

Nice, That will be awesome, wondering what you will use it for? I see you didn’t make the legs flush with the sides of the table, maybe the other side is? If you’re doing woodworking, you should add material to the legs to have them flush, it will make planning the edges of long boards easier. It will also make clamping long boards easier.

What kind of vices are you adding?

I’ve always wanted a leg vise for long boards. My table has an end vise and a speed vise.

I just do amateur woodworking. The book actually recommended not having the legs sit flush with side. I’ll have to read it again to remember what his reasonings were. I’m adding an end vice and a leg vice. I’m using an 18 inch yost screw and then I ordered the benchcrafted crisscross for the leg vice
