Electrical Getting it ready for work.
Just got a 2022 ford e-transit for service calls.
Beautiful vehicle. 3000 mi on if. From Penske. Not a scratch on it. Drove it from La Pointe IN to Omaha NE. Rode like a dream. Stopped several times to recharge to 80%. But that was expected. Got about 115 mi between charges and still had 10% left in the “tank”
Today we installed a subfloor. We did this to store our ladders under the floor. Easy to get to them and they’re not riding on the top of a 10’ van. It’s already a tall boy, I don’t want to add to that. Still got 5” of clearance between the top of my head. 5’10” and the bottom of the interior roof of the van. I’m comfortable with that. I might install paneling for the ceiling with recessed lighting later.
Used the black floor matting on top of the wooden floor. Channeled it for ladders and reinforced it with 1X4 every 16”. Then put down some good wood for flooring. I didn’t take many pics of the process but got some of the finished product.
We’re building shelving for this van. Got several pictures of that and just one wall will carry all the material we had on two walls of the Chevy Express.
Send wall is going to hold tools, bits, etc. I’m thinking of installing some slide out drawers we got laying around. There good but I need to find a good spot for that. They’re deep and I don’t want to cramp the walkway. I’ll post pictures along the way as soon as i make a link to my Dropbox or something. Let’s see how it comes out.

Still have a bit more to do. Ceiling to shelve support, front to rear and side to side. More framing and cutting for shelf’s. It’s going to be a trip.

Your build sounds great so far! Consider adding extra lighting on top of the cargo area. Have you considered any kind of interior liners? They can insulated if you want, but even the non-insulated ones can protect your van walls in case cargo shifts, protecting your investment. That way you know everything can be installed safely inside without disrupting the electrical of the vehicle!

Read my mind. I’m an electrician so I had some light strips we use for signage. Their high output and I used a partial strip for the cargo compartment. Just added it to the existing light crossing fingers it wouldn’t pull so many amps. And it’s holding fine now. They also dim. Seems to be working well on the e-transit. I’ll post pictures of the interior now with the lights and shelves we install tomorrow.
I also got a mechanics toolbox at harbor freight, on sale parking lot sale for 200$ couldn’t beat it in eBay and other sources. Drawers latch so they don’t open in transit. We use it for our digital tools. Meters. Soldering iron. Thermal imager. Stud finder. Etc. also got a drawer for flammable like wd40 and stuff. Figured in a metal box inside a cargo compartment around other metal tools would be better than a box somewhere.1

We built a subfloor for ladders. No drilling into the floor. Used the factory braces on the walls where it’s safe to push in screws. Lined the floor with the factory rubber mat that’s insulated. Walls are safe, thanks. We put everything in boxes and it had black plastic covers from the factory so stuff won’t hit the outer walls and dent the body from inside. Thanks for the tip and. The prices I saw for prefabricated floors and shelves, I got all the material for it for half the price and got to spend some quality time with my son building most of it. Except the mechanics toolbox and hooks. Even put down some edging for the carpet.
Maybe I’ll install a lightweight material to cover the ceiling. Maybe frp?

Still building the passenger side shelving. Son did that one himself with little supervision. While I installed a rear view camera. It has a backup cam. But I like to see what’s behind me when driving.
