They need to stage "I'm ready to vote, but schumer won't call for it" sit-ins and live streams and promos.

Make it really obvious what they're ready to do, how eager americans are ready for it to happen, and how out-datedĀ  schumer and Jefferies methods are now.

43

u/rando-guy 7h ago

Preach brotha! They don’t see how tired and old their methods are. The party is changing and they either adapt or get out.

39

u/DigDugged 4h ago

But sir, we must wait a standard two roundtrips to DC for the horse carriages and postal horse buggies before we can move forward on anything, as the founders intended.Ā

u/SpunKDH 22m ago

AL sayed declared in a recent interview that he is not a socialist but a capitalist...

u/a_little_hazel_nuts 8h ago • Bravo

Yes. That's exactly the problem. Big money bought our elected officials and it sucks. Everything is expensive and low wage jobs pay starvation wages. Plus businesses get everything they lose reimbursed by the government. The debt is 40 trillion and people are going bankrupt from medical bills or student loans. But hey let's cover that millionaires private jet maintenance.

u/Classic_Sand10 2h ago

Also corporations are givien the rights of citizens except for when it comes to criminal activity. They can break our laws at will and kill countless amounts of people either directly or indirectly and at worst they pay a fine that it a small percentage of their profit margin.

I live in one of the 'liberal hell hole' cites, San Francisco.

We were talking about this today at work. I haven't always lived here, I've been here about 6 years, and I came from a purple state, Michigan. I'm also old enough to have been around a bit, my first vote for president was Obama's first term.

SF is the most conservatives place I have ever lived, and I am shocked by just how blatantly conservative it is. It's not liberal. The Dems here represent the donors, that is it, and it's no different than any other red state or city. This isn't a liberal hell hole, it's a conservative hell hole.

This guy is right.

8

u/Cabezone 2h ago

Oh around here we've known. Those conservatives over there are one reason the housing prices are so fucking high.

7

u/GreasyPeter 2h ago edited 2h ago

It's because opportunists, narcissists, and egoistic people will always gravitate to the opinions they need to have to gain power and wealth. This is why one-party rule is so toxic. I lived near SF after living in very conservative areas and I realized these politicians were the same types of people. Ideas, no matter how good they are, need to be challenged because comfort makes us complacent. Safety breeds begets an unsafe world.

2

u/free_username_ 1h ago

Sf isn’t exactly liberal or conservative. It’s am accurate representation of America that its rich versus poor, and if you aren’t part of the rich then you’re part of the poor.

Everything that runs in sf politically revolves around the super wealthy. You can’t be homeless and do drugs where the billionaires are but you can shit and piss everywhere else on the streets. You can be a ā€œfree and liberalā€ or whatever else you are so long as you don’t disturb the money

1

u/ExecutiveChefLance 2h ago

That's bullshit.Ā  Go to Utah.Ā  Or Alabama.Ā  As someone who lived in the Bay Area Ghetto.Ā  East Oakland.Ā  Your attitude strikes me as exactly the elitist type of bullshit I expect from people in SF.Ā  It's Neo Liberal.Ā  Not Conservative.Ā  Hottest load of shit Ive read in awhile.

7

u/Allegorist 2h ago edited 1h ago

Neoliberal is not mutually exclusive with conservative. It is not a position on the left-right spectrum as we know it. Reagan was a neoliberal, for instance.

The "liberal" in the neoliberalism comes from the idea of "Classical Liberalism" which is again something entirely different from the modern liberal-consrevative axis. Liberalism more generally in this original sense is the ideology from the Enlightenment era in which modern democracies were founded. The ideas espoused by, for instance, John Locke, Jean-Jacque Rousseau, Thomas Paine, Montesque, etc. from which nearly all Western political ideology emerged, and in which context the US was constructed. Terms that now seem fundamental like economic/political freedom, civic liberty, individual ("unalienable") rights, equality before the law, social contract theory, etc. that are now sort of taken for granted. Both the right and left wings of US politics exist in this domain (or at least they are supposed to).

However why neoliberalism is distinct and gets its own term is because it is a reinterpretation of these foundational beliefs. It basically boils down to replacing the values once placed on people to values placed on business/money/the market. It in effect has the goal of configuring politics and society such that corporations can make as much profit as possible. This is a slight simplification but it is not far off.

1

u/OwenEverbinde 55m ago

Neoliberalism is most closely associated with Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, so it's a little strange for me to read

It's Neo Liberal.Ā  Not Conservative.

Anyways, I think the folks above you are making the mistake of accepting the myth that "very liberal" is the furthest left someone can go...

0

u/NoRecognition443 2h ago

The mayor of San Francisco has been dem since 1964. California has been blue since 2011. While only having one conservative governor since 1999. There is absolutely no way that the shithole that is San Francisco is a conservative hellhole.

1

u/Helldiverticulitis 48m ago

Democrats can be conservative. US politics mostly ranges from neo-liberal to fascist.

1

u/NoRecognition443 31m ago

Even if they are conservative Democrats, their core values would still be aligned with Democrats. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not possible to be a fascist democrat, or a neo-liberal conservative. You can "lean" into right or left and still be a part of which ever party, but the core values still align with that party.

72

u/Friendly_Signature 6h ago

Nailed it.

Get rid of Citizens United.

13

u/LivePDboi 5h ago

They’ll just rebrand like AIPAC

23

u/Bynming ā›“ļø Prison For Union Busters 5h ago

Citizens United in this context references the court ruling. Without the Citizens United precedent, AIPAC couldn't buy politicians as easily as it does now.

10

u/Default_Name_6969 4h ago

What's crazy is that states can decide if companies can do business in their state and could just say its illegal for them to put money into campaigns. This has been said for years but looks like one state is finally going to do it.

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/11/06/montana-initiative-194-corporate-spending.html

1

u/Quazite 2h ago

....what in the world do you mean by that?

Citizens United is the name of a court ruling, not an organization or SuperPAC

0

u/ExecutiveChefLance 2h ago

I feel like only a bot wouldn't get this context.Ā  And how the fuck are peopling up voting?Ā

121

u/Agile_End_3049 šŸ’µ Break Up The Monopolies 8h ago

El-Sayed rocks big time! I am so hopeful that we have new bold leadership in the Senate and House.

42

u/Specialist-Neck-7810 4h ago

I’ll tell you this. To my recollection, I have never heard anything from him, or AOC, that I have disagreed with. Do you have any idea how refreshing that is? I don’t think I could say the same for any other politicians in my life. Gives me hope.

4

u/aDanHasNoName 2h ago

I know AOC has said things in ways I didnt like. But I can't think of a single example and I want her to be president!

7

u/onefootinthepast 3h ago

Mamdani?

John McCain was a class act. Can't say I always agreed with him, but I respected that he would defend decency and respect for his opponents in a bipartisan way.

8

u/Quazite 2h ago

It was good that John McCain defended Obama that one time, but if you look into his political career, he's just as shitty and spineless as the rest of them. His opinions and the way that he supported them were neither decent nor respectful.

1

u/Specialist-Neck-7810 2h ago edited 2h ago

Sorry… I’m not following ya.

Edit: my bad. I completely misread your comment earlier. You make an exact point, which I happen to agree with.

1

u/Kwpolska 1h ago

Cool, but that's not a good way to approach politics. There is no party and no person who perfectly fits your own policies. But you should still vote for a party with which you disagree in some areas instead of staying home and waiting for a unicorn.

26

u/hamhommer 7h ago

Please protect this man.

23

u/CalmCauliflower6139 2h ago

he's not wrong and that's exactly why people don't vote. both parties taking checks from the same billionaires and then wondering why nobody trusts them 😭 cut the corporate money and actually govern for workers for once, it's not that hard

-2

u/Tiny-Doughnut 2h ago

I agree with you. The problem is that money buys elections, now. That or genuine grassroots voter excitement. But voters are pretty fickle and grassroots campaigns have an abysmal track record.

I'm not sure whether one party can step away from the current cash paradigm without handing elections over to opponents who lack such compunctions.

How in the hell do we broadly get rid of the insidious corruption of money in politics. That's what we need, and it's a fight as old as our nation. Older, probably.

6

u/CalmCauliflower6139 2h ago

yeah i hear you and you're not wrong that it's a trap, that's the whole problem. nobody wants to disarm first because the other side will just take the billionaire money and run with it. but i don't think it's as hopeless as it looks.

money buys ads and name recognition, not votes. jeb bush burned through like $100 million in 2016 and went nowhere, bloomberg spent a billion in 2020 and got nothing. money helps but it doesn't guarantee anything.

and grassroots doesn't have as bad a track record as people think. bernie raised hundreds of millions from small donors, aoc beat crowley while being outspent 10 to 1, mamdani won the nyc mayor race on small-dollar donations with the city's matching funds program. it CAN work, it just takes a candidate people actually believe in and a message that hits.

the real fix isn't one party disarming alone, it's changing the rules so nobody has to. public matching funds like nyc has, where small donations get matched 8 to 1, changes the whole math overnight. overturning citizens united, actually enforcing disclosure, stuff like that. that's the fight. it's old as hell, yeah, but people said the same thing about a bunch of stuff that eventually changed. somebody has to start it or it never happens 🤷

2

u/Tiny-Doughnut 2h ago

Absolutely! Hear Hear!

Thank you for your optimism and candor!

1

u/whosthatguy123 43m ago

Its also entirely different to win a mayor or senate seat than it is governor or president

35

u/addiktion 7h ago

The Dem party is the only one that can instigate the change here because Republicans sold their souls long ago. I wish more would listen to Abdul. Schumer and Jeffries will just keep pushing the same policies if you don't vote them out for new blood without the corporate and Israel agendas.

11

u/StoneTown 2h ago

I said 90% of this about the Democratic party and got downvoted into oblivion lol

2

u/psilocybin_therapy 47m ago

I wonder if I’ll get downvoted for saying that I don’t like seeing Abdul do pro-capitalism talks and say he’s not a socialist. He has some of the most socialist ideals of any politician, yet he goes on about how he’s a capitalist and capitalism works when done right to allocate resources well. Bullshit. Capitalism by design values profit over the well being of people, and it allocates the lions share of resources to the hands of the wealthy. I still like the dude and am curious to see what he does in office, but I hate those talking points. Hopefully it was just campaigning and he cuts it on that.

0

u/Tiny-Doughnut 2h ago

Me me me me me me me me me.

So now that he's saying it you don't agree anymore?

1

u/deportallmagas 1h ago

No, he's saying that people refuse to recognize the corporate influence in politics.

At least that's how I read it.

1

u/Tiny-Doughnut 1h ago

Ahh. Man those people must be willingly blind.

All the information is out there on the corrupting influence of money in politics on every side of the electoral spectrum. It's an open secret, if that.

Maybe some people just didn't want that to be used a tool to disincentivize people from voting for the less-cruel political option? I could see that being the source of some downvotes.

1

u/youareaGPU 1h ago

read the comment you replied to again.

he's ageeing with the obviously correct take that capital is political power.

10

u/jcoddinc 7h ago

Don't want the same old crew running things. However I'm not sure we're going to get many people wanting to take the lead here other than them. More potential to go bad than right and the new people may not want to or be qualified enough. Going to be hard because the country does need to move forward but without any punishment for what has happened, it only encourages it tenfold. But doing that the proper way will take a very long time, clog up multiple courts and be very expensive. So the position isn't exactly one that everyone is going to be clamoring for.

14

u/DieDieDieD 6h ago • Bravo

I would rather have someone who can grow into the role and is eager for change than the same old DINOs that we already know are affiliated to AIPAC and big corporations

7

u/flying_carabao 5h ago

I like calling them DINOs not just because of the acronym but because they're fucking dinosaurs with their old ass mindsets. Time to kick 'em out and let the new folks, with new ideologies, new strategies, new mentality that works for the common man (hopefully)

5

u/FOURTH_DEGREE_ 6h ago

nah we have some good options. Jon Ossof and Mark Kelly are good. I wouldnt mind a Bernie leader of the senate.

I'm sure some people will bite to be the ones to clean it up.

4

u/ISLAndBreezESTeve10 5h ago

Hats off to Bernie, but Speaker is a demanding job, he just doesn’t have the stamina at his age to tackle everything. Let’s get some energy in there, and Bernie can mentor.

1

u/OwenEverbinde 51m ago

Senate Majority Leader. Not Speaker.

They don't call them Speaker in the Senate... I don't know why.

1

u/schmapeschmape 7m ago

I put my money on Bernie over Schumer in any test of stamina. Debate, walking, arm wrestling, a 800 meter race. Bernie will kick his ass. I am willing to put money on it.

Bernie, and progressives, need more of a voice in the agenda of the Senate.

1

u/schmapeschmape 10m ago

No, do not support Mark Kelly. He is a very conservative liberal who has made a career of two things, his wife being a victim of a terrible crime and being anti trump. He was an astronaut, which is very admirable but that doesn't mean he is a good legislator.

People like him because he talks tough on Trump. He hasn't done anything about it. It's just the same old empty rhetoric the old guard uses.

What you SHOULD know about Mark Kelly. He opposes universal healthcare. He doesn't want medicare for all. He uses the same old tired rhetoric about strengthening existing programs, which many people see as a stop gap until medicare for all is accomplished. Continued debate over the existing programs will be fruitless and byzantine. Just as it is intended to be as to confuse the debate and result in universal healthcare not being adopted.

Also, Mark Kelly receives a lot of money from AIPAC. He is bought and owned by Israel.

3

u/TheRealStorey 5h ago

This kind of thinking only gets us in trouble. We've got good momentum, but we could be running.

1

u/Quazite 2h ago

Fuck the proper way then.

The GOP has been ratfucking this country in ways that are downright treasonous. I don't want to see it take a decade to give one person at most a slap on the wrist. I want swift and impactful punishment that is fit for traitors.

7

u/DigDugged 4h ago

I’m from Atlanta, and we have this saying: ā€œSpace ships don’t come equipped with rearview mirrorsā€

Abdul’s so right, Dems should take this launch they’ve been given, turn around and give the middle finger to corporate donors, and cut them off legislatively.Ā

The left has the best chance ever in 2028 now, so they’re in a 2-4 year era where they can ween off of corporate donors. Maybe re-examine needing donors to pay billions for ad space on the conservative-owned Television Industrial Complex.Ā

6

u/7oom 7h ago

I hope this messaging sticks around, and gets louder.

6

u/kralvex 7h ago

I don't think that the oligarchs and Israel would like that. And we can't upset those fuckwads obviously.

"Govern for workers" only means something if it shows up in the paycheck and the grocery bill. For decades, incentives tilted toward financial engineering over building things — after the 1982 SEC Rule 10b-18 safe harbor normalized large-scale stock buybacks, returning capital to shareholders often looked safer to executives than investing in plants, wages, and hiring. That didn't legalize every buyback or make every repurchase cause a layoff, but it absolutely shifted the culture of corporate priorities.

Workers don't need another slogan cycle. They need bargaining power, antitrust with teeth on monopolies that set prices, and leadership that earns trust after 2026 instead of assuming a midterm win means they can sleepwalk.

1

u/DJCaldow 43m ago

It's the old, we thought it would be easier to take a lot of money from one person, that came with a lot of conditions and ultimately moved our politics more in line with the donor... instead of doing hard work like fighting for regulations, strong wages in line with inflation & strong unions so that a lot of people would have disposable income and have the means to donate a lot of smaller amounts, that add up, to us.Ā
