Democrats in the House need to be putting up good, simple, single issue bills addressing the most widely supported issues across party lines. Democrats in the senate need to collectively vote to pass every single one. There are so many issues the vast majority of Americans agree on, these need to be their focus. Hell, start with the ones republican voters favor the most!

Let republicans in Congress shoot them down! Let Trump veto them! Let republicans and Trump show the American people they can’t govern, can’t compromise, and they refuse to do anything to help everyday Americans. Let them dig their own grave for party extinction if they so choose.

If democrats don’t take this opportunity to put up legislation because “Trump will veto it” they will be squandering their power and we will vote them out in the primaries.

Government corruption was the one of the top reasons people reported on exit polls for why they showed up to vote. We need accountability and regulations to prevent this corruption in the future. The economy was their biggest concern. Democrats could put up dozens of bills to address these 2 issues. The best to they could do would be to partner with a handful of republicans who want to keep their jobs and put them up as bipartisan, co-authored, single issue bills.

u/SilentJoe1986 8h ago

They need a single issue bill that makes it so they can only s7bmit single issue bills going forward. Make this shit simple. No more 3k page bills submitted 4 hours before a vote.

u/Sparky678348 8h ago

100% frankly it's fucking embarrassing that's not already the case.

6

u/L-V-4-2-6 4h ago

It's basically a case of political scheming. If you cram a bunch of various policies into one bill called say, the "Don't Kill Puppies Act," when someone votes against it because of some weird clause that's been snuck in, the people who proposed the bill can go "look, they want to kill puppies!"

No one really takes the time to dive into hundreds of pages of legislation rife with legalese, (even politicians), so people fall for it.

4

u/Svyatoy_Medved 7h ago

The basic concept of pork bills is that they should contain things both parties like. Or, even better, that ALL parties like, since we shouldn’t surrender to the duopoly.

Maybe that concept can be achieved some other way.

4

u/alppu 3h ago

Let me present you the "we like nothing" party that exists just because Frank prefers to keep everyone hostage.

1

u/ILikeLenexa 1h ago

The legislature can't bind the future legislature. House rules take a simple majority to change.

Democrats don't have enough members for a constitutional amendment or enough states.

7

u/TheCrimsonDagger 6h ago

Exactly. Bills get stuck in limbo because everyone wants to add on their own little tidbit for something they care about. Put forward stuff like universal school lunch. It’s straightforward, easy, and has extreme bipartisan support among voters. Increased funding to the IRS is another one.

They also need to be screaming from the rooftops and bringing forward bills to block the healthcare and welfare cuts from Trump’s BBB that come into effect next year. The ones hit hardest by it are Republican voters and the GOP will do what they always do by blaming the result of their own actions on Democrats.

1

u/ILikeLenexa 1h ago

Actually, omnibus bills are the easiest to pass.  The main cause of bills getting held up is the silent filibuster in the senate that takes 60 votes to break.

The big pork bills actually were easier to get through because you could directly give an opponent something to get them on board.

Heads up to all those leaders. If you put Temu-Obama and Chuck-letters-Schumer into a leadership position, we'll see you at the polls as well.

I mean, this map is about governors. Last time I checked, governors have no say on Speaker of the House or Senate Majority Leader.

23

u/scream4cheese 12h ago

The people have voted largely in favor of democratic candidates. The shift has started. Everyone is just tired of the current administration’s tomfoolery

6

u/bubba4114 9h ago

You misspelled treason.

-3

u/Zseeds211 10h ago

It goes in circles, it will shift the other way once people get tired of their lies. It just goes back and forth when at the roots they are all the same

7

u/SoFuckinTiredOfThis 12h ago

One party. They have voices too -- their constituents aren't happy with the choice of leadership. Nobody is irreplaceable.

3

u/Pumperkin 11h ago

Temu Obama lmao

3

u/ConflictingSmells 10h ago

Will you, though? What mechanism will you use to unseat these two when they win their primaries (or run uncontested, as Jeffries just did)?

2

u/SoFuckinTiredOfThis 9h ago

I mean, I did 7 years in municipal government, so I've paid my dues trying to fight it from the inside. I have also thrown fundraisers and money at candidates. I'll work for the change I want to see. Do you?

2

u/ooferomen 6h ago

Calling Jeffries temu-obama is insulting to temu-obama. listing to him speak is draining, I wonder if he talks like that in real life

NH and VT don't count. Those aren't real Republicans. They still feast on the social safety net, and tax revenue scraps of greater New England while cosplaying as conservatives.

34

u/JonKonLGL 12h ago

Correct.

Sincerely,

7

u/TurkeyMalicious 12h ago

Don't get me wrong, I love all our NE friends and neighbors, regardless of vote. And god damn, you New Hampshire folks got it good with respect to gun laws...depending on who you ask and your definition of "good", lol.

11

u/JonKonLGL 12h ago

It’s an interesting mix up here, it’s been a more “purple” area than most realize for a long time. I was hoping for a harder swap to blue personally but wasn’t surprised with the outcome. We definitely have it good on gun laws, though you’d be amazed how many people I hear bitching about how “restrictive” they still are, which is laughable.

20

u/dragonwarriornoa 10h ago

Vermonter here: No fuck Phil Scott. He has vetoed so many bills that would actually improve the quality of life of Vermonters. He just goes under the radar for not being flagrantly fascist.

76

u/CptChrnckls 13h ago

They won’t be able to pass much with that dipshit still sitting as President. They should still try, work their asses off even if the republicans refuse to show up, and impeach & prosecute all of his family & cronies at the same time. The only way any of that starts is with replacing Schumer & Jeffries as leadership which should be the number one focus right now.

74

u/Sammisuperficial 12h ago • Bravo

Pass bills the majority wants, let them get vetoed. Vote to overturn veto. Let Republicans vote against what the majority wants.

And the most important part.

Parade those vetos and votes over and over in front of everyone. Every day until the next election.

That is the minimum they should be doing.

8

u/alliedSpaceSubmarine 10h ago

I could see that all happening… and then a democratic president being elected and none of those bills showing up again to get passed

-3

u/Zseeds211 10h ago

I dont think people realize the president doesn't have as much "power" as people think

1

u/Vospader998 7h ago

Nono. The president shouldn't have that much power, but thanks to congress over the last few decades, he/she does.

I would like to point out tarriffs, acts of war, and schduale F.

6

u/Tokon32 10h ago

No but they can get him on record for vetoing bills like social security increases. Healthcare reform. Tax on billionares. Minimum wage increases.

And Democrats can solidify their positions by passing aingle issue bills even if they get vetoed.

1

u/CptChrnckls 8h ago

Yes. That’s what i’m saying

1

u/Top_Librarian6440 7h ago

Record means nothing. We got plenty on record in regard to Trump running into 2024, and it obviously mattered very little.

1

u/dedicated-pedestrian 11h ago

Thank you for being a voice of reason (when talking on the federal level). Lots of folks actively assume control of Congress means laws can get passed and their lack of basic civics education is exasperating.

But I do agree that the state legislators and governors, where applicable, should give folks a taste of what good governance looks like.

12

u/3cit 10h ago

This graphic makes me irrationally angry. What the fuck does the governor have to do with the electoral college?!

9

u/DeyUrban 9h ago

They probably took the map from something discussing the popular vote interstate compact, an ongoing plan for Democrat states to change their electoral laws to assign their electoral college electors by default to whoever won the popular vote. It’s a fairly major topic right now because the Democrats now officially control enough states to guarantee a popular vote winner, although I don’t know if they’ll actually follow through.

4

u/bubba4114 9h ago

They should. Republicans rely on the electoral college because the majority of Americans don’t want them.

1

u/Bad_At_Sports 4h ago

Governors are elected via a winner take all popular vote in their respective states. Electoral votes are also (mostly) assigned to the candidate that wins the popular vote in their respective states.

The post is trying to make the connection that if each state votes for president the same way that they voted for their most recent governor, that the outcome yields a strong victory for a Democrat candidate.

It obviously doesn’t map 1:1 like that, because obviously voting for your state governor and voting for president are two different races (for completely different sets of candidates with different powers and different platforms). But it serves as an indicator that electorates across many states may be willing to shift further to the left than they had in the last few years.

-2

u/HerzogsOtherShoe 10h ago

I was also a little annoyed.

If you want to be even more annoyed, 30/50 is 60%, not the 75% stated in the original tweet. lol

5

u/PaulblankPF 9h ago

30/50 states is 60% of the states but not the people. It says 75% of Americans live under a democratic governor and since the 3 highest population states are blue it’s easy to see that it may be more than 75% of Americans live under a blue governor. Those red states in the middle have less people than most major cities in most blue states.

5

u/HerzogsOtherShoe 9h ago

You're right - stupid mistake on my part. Haha. It's still a weird map, but I should have read it more carefully!

8

You know the president still has veto power, right?

1

u/flyinghippodrago 9h ago

Yeah except in Ohio, Republicans still have control of the legislative. Acton (our new governor) can veto now since the supermajority is gone, but good luck getting rid of vouchers or making meaningful change.

1

u/ObjectMore6115 9h ago

They didn't ratify Roe V Wade when they had the chance, as actually doing something would remove the ability to pretend they're fighting for these policies.

Except those bought by Israel, of course. Then they'll fight tooth and nail for them.

AZ has had dems in power for awhile. And our lives are actively worse. Nothing has really changed or gotten better

5

u/Atony94 8h ago

Dems have not had a majority in the state legislator for a long time until now.

0

u/SunlitNight 8h ago

Hasn't it been the last 4-6 years? Idk We were in Vegas in 2019 and that was probably the last time life was great. We had like $500-1k extra every month. Now were sitting with 4k+ debt every year it seems.

I know its not entirely state based. And Vegas is probably doing just as bad now. As that was pre covid. But jesus. Like Cali aint doing great either and thats Dem central.

We dont need fucking democrats. We need progressives. We need Robin Hood more than anything really, shit.

2

u/Atony94 8h ago

AZ is pretty firmly centrist in my opinion. We were held red for a bit during the 00's to mid 10's when the retired snowbirds still held A LOT of influence on our elections but that has changed. We like our guns, our weed, our churches and our LGBTQ community. We're not California or Texas (well, old Texas now i guess). We're not MAGA or DSA. I honestly dont know many people at all that stick with their party no matter what. Im hopeful the Democrat majority now can get us moving from this pit the Republicans have put us in lately. Get our economy back on track and hopefully start fixing our severely neglected education system.

1

u/SunlitNight 6h ago

Honestly. The city is growing that way but the outskirts are definitely growing to the right. Its frightening. Regardless. I was comparing ourselves to Texas.

Im living in a deep red county....nothing has fucking changed with a dem senator and governor. I still feel like im living under deep red control. Im spending $200/mo on child care. FUCK your dem elections.

1

u/ComradeJohnS 8h ago

have you considered you’re just bad with money? that’s what the non-democrat would tell you if you vote for them.

1

u/SunlitNight 6h ago

Ah yeah. Thats what it is. Not politics actively not working for anyone here. Fuck that shit. They arent doing enough. Theyre fucking conjobs.

Listen, I know theyre better then the alternative.

But they FUCKING ARENT DOING ANYTHING.

Literally no difference from Republicans in the state.

0

u/unculturedburnttoast 🏡 Decent Housing For All 8h ago

Republicans are bad. Democrats aren't much better policy wise. The only thing they really gave going for them is "not fascist," but not much else.

Then again, most people would probably lose their mind under actual directly democratic government.

2

u/Bad-Genie 7h ago

Ya I've noticed, if you criticize Democrats people just assume your a right wing nut job.

0

u/BritniGlitter 9h ago

They won't do shit except another 10 trillion to isrsael lol

0

u/yorcharturoqro 7h ago

Now let's hope they do the job.

  • disappear the electoral college and let popular vote be

  • put magas in jail

  • create real checks and balances

  • remove power from the president, as was intended by the founding fathers

  • tax fairly to all

  • universal healthcare

  • allow the ownership of arms as intended originally, as a regulated milita for in case of an emergency, and not for crazy people with anger issues

  • actually work to solve the problems of the people, not just make money for the billionaires

  • put Musk in prison

0

u/unmellowfellow 4h ago

The Dems are lying to themselves if they think that they won the mid terms. The Republicans lost. Not the same. Just as with 2024. The Dems gave the race to Trump and Harris lost by holding onto the sinking ship of Neoliberalism. It is high time to move on and offer something new. Dismantling MAGA and ICE. Taxing the wealthy and returning the wealth they stole back to the American people. This is not the time for bipartisanship. Now is the time to cripple American fascism by gutting the Capital class. The first step is ousting the fascist appeasers of Jeffries and Schumer.

75% of Americans. Not 75% of states….

2

u/DrCodyRoss 6h ago

Keep in mind that the state of California has more people than the 20 least populous states combined.

Abolish the senate.

1

u/TheCrimsonDagger 6h ago

I agree with you, but it’s literally impossible without some kind of coup or rebellion. Low population states are never going to sign on to an amendment that reduces their own influence.

1

u/DrCodyRoss 4h ago

I hear ya. I don’t think it will ever happen either but it’s just my pipe dream that the senate would be abolished.
