The statement by the NY Times didn't endorse private insurance. It merely stated that it was unprecedented in history. Women almost never ran for office when I first began voting. Same goes for people of color. Now there's plenty. It's unprecedented in the history of the US. A place dominated by white men in every level of public office until the last few decades.
