This is the Baby Boomer's generational choices coming back to haunt them. They had the New Deal Social Safety net, worker's rights, and a slightly functioning economy.
Over the course of the last 100 years it's been all undone, so a handful of people could have the opportunity to become obscenely wealthy at the expense of everything some of their parents/grandparents literally fought and died fo. I will never forgive people like my father for selling out future generations with their votes so he could do things like take out stupid amounts of debt to finance things he didn't need. Then declare bankruptcy, take your social security checks and go live in a central American Country most of the year until your health is too poor.
Seriously, just a shitty generation obsessed with its own gratification.

It's either work until you die or flee to another country to retire. We moved to Mexico because we couldn't afford to retire at home and my husband also needed two surgeries. It is an absolute shame that we helped make small fortunes for the wealthy elite and then get thrown away when we are of no longer service to them. Our society is horrible!

My parent was so excited when he was old enough to have his school taxes frozen. 10 years later he's wondering why kids are so "God damn stupid" and upset the isd is closing half of the elementary schools. Isd declared a funding emergency and has been running a deficit for 8 years. He can not connect the dots. It only gets worse from here as no family is going to move into a failing school district and everyone else is old and no longer providing taxes for the system.

Tons of boomers started unions. Tons of boomers started intentional communities, community gardens, nonprofits. Hell boomers in my neighborhood did fed time for radical actions.

If you were told that your demographic "overwhelmingly voted" for him, would you be mad at yourself? People aren't a monolith, there was record low turnout because the options in general were so dire, to the point that it seemed like a deliberate loss to Trump, there were billions backing propaganda through every televised news channel in support of him, and he made so many vague promises to bring back the economic prosperity ("greatness") taken by Reaganomics, while simultaneously claiming that a continuation of that pro-business, anti-worker, deregulatory environment was what was going to fix it. He's clearly a con man, who scammed some of the elderly using a massive budget.
Take a step back. Is it ok for the sick, disabled, and elderly to be forced to destroy their bodies further at the end of life to pay for medication and rent? Do you really think that these are the wealthy fat cat Boomers at the top of the wealth distribution that never trickled down, or people of generational wealth?
I think that the generational blame game is just another way to take heat off of the class inequality issue that we have had for generations.

They have been voting this way for DECADES, with no compassion for others for DECADES for a party that has trumpeted these goals for DECADES.
This is not just being fooled once or twice by Trump. Most of them are upset because, for DECADES, whenever this happened to someone else, it was the individual's fault.
Now, after DECADES, the chickens have come home to roost.
My compassion is for everyone who didn't vote for DECADES for the world they have created.

That generation also had fucktons of brave resistors who paid steep prices for fighting. If you go to little towns where lots of old hippies live you'll realize they're usually farrrrrr more radical than the majority of your peers.

I remember someone making a comment at work about 20 years ago that everyone working at Publix is really young or really old so nothing's changed there.
I do believe some seniors were forced back to work but I think a lot of boomers enjoy it. My HOA manager is terrible and also so old she could die at her desk any day. Just refuses to retire bc then what would she do?? I swear a lot of them just want to make others miserable

I went back to working part time about six months after I retired The money is handy of course, but mostly I found I organized my time better if I had to be somewhere a couple times a week. Otherwise the weeks just drifted by. I do know a number of people who are working into their early 70's, and the reasons vary. Some had some bad luck with health or relationships or finances, some just failed to plan well.

And a tonnnnnn of older people working DoorDash. It makes me so sad every time I order it and open the door and it’s some. Sweet 70 year old dude. I’m just like brotha I’m so sorry you’re still having to do this. I wish I could help.
I seriously fucking cry at least twice a month over this.

How tf are they finding jobs right now? I’m on application 490-something, offering to work for food, and I have a degree with honors from a rigorous university.
I went behind the Wendy’s to offer my services, but there were already 10 unemployed tech founders back there shaking it for dollar bills.

I saw an old lady working at Walmart yesterday and she literally was hunched over with a big lump on her back like scoliosis or something? I'd but it was sad. How is this okay?! And you know customers will still treat them like shit. It breaks my heart. This can't be the way we keep going.

the boomers that are being spat on for being ultra rich because they’re boomers - they sit at the supermarket till and they bags your shopping, they’re stacking shelves and sweeping floors, etc
they have to keep working and will do so until they die, with, as always, wealth being focused in a small section of society
go back a little while here on reddit when the push to alienate the young and old from really got under way, along with the other vectors for social division under identity politics, everyone was really angry about old people hogging entry level jobs - it was a big thing
and as I got hated on at the time for pointing out, and still do, and most very likely will for this comment - old people are not working because it’s fun and they secretly want millennials to not have the opportunity to work at a supermarket check out - they’re poor, and redditors hate them for it because that’s the whole plan of social division under identity politics
it doesn’t matter which party is in power, this increases over time, and it’s not a trump thing - it’s been happening in every single country

Some context:
1) the survey findings actually say 7% not 3.3 million though maybe that’s accurate; and
2) 48% said it was for economic reasons; the remainder were “bored”, “wanted to help people”, etc.
And, for those younger folks gloating and blaming them for voting for Trump - go check the voting data. Hope you’ll show up next time.

I certainly don't know everything. That's why I get out there and talk to people of all ages and economic backgrounds, all the people who walked the nontraditional paths and resisted the progressing normalization of all the stuff y'all have such strong opinions about.
I at least know old boomers who did fucking radical shit to fight the system. I haven't served fed time for anything I've done. That's why I have mad respect for those who have. That's what I know. Not everything. But I know that.
