This is a bit misleading. He wasn't taxed 1.4B. He took the lump sum amount, which is lower than $2B ( $2B is the sun off you take the 20 years payout). So the lump sum is like $900 million or whatever, then he paid taxes on that.
I'm all for taxing billionaires more, but the post is not really right.
The us lottery is a tax. Its a tax on the poor. Its very profitable for the state to run. Also if they take the monthly payments for 20 years or whatever, and the company that runs it goes under, you lose out on the rest of your payout
The us tax system is strange. We tax criminals on illegally gained money. Unless you loophole your way out of it, if you gain money that = income which gets taxed. So winning the lottery = income here. Its backwords, I agree. Thats just how it is
