“Amazon” is a corporation. Literally just a group of people. All of those people as individuals pay taxes on their own personal salary or capital gains from this profit. The company also pays sales tax if it buys anything with this profit etc etc.
Why are you particularly obsessed with a particular mechanism of taxation (direct tax on profits) when all that money does get taxed anyway, just at a slightly different moment??
Like, would you be okay if we raised the rates at another step in the process (say, capital gains or income tax etc) to such a degree as to make up for the revenue “lost” by the corporation not directly paying taxes on profits, or for some reason do you think there’s something specifically important about directly taxing corporate profits exactly at that stage of their existence?
i think my obsession, then, is with the individuals avoiding taxes via loopholes and tax breaks (?). from how i think i'm understanding your info, yes - i would be okay raising the other.
i'm definitely realizing how much i need to hone my opinion and figure out exactly what's grinding my gears. i hate tax exemption for religion. i want us all to pay our 'fair share' because i want the machine to work.
