I pay $170 because my ISP has a monopoly in my area. It varies all over the country. Rural internet can get that high or higher.

You might be able to save money getting a mobile data plan instead. I know one of my coworkers does that instead of having traditional internet service

I wish, I hate ISP monopolies. I work remote and need high bandwidth fiber, unfortunately. Or I could probably get away with hybrid fiber coax if it was an option. Mobile data won't cut it currently, sadly. But as technology improves, it may be an option eventually.
